  • Ford Laser TX3 (Escort GT) for parts?

Somewhat hypothetical as I'd need some time to produce the total cash total being asked but would this 1992 Ford Laser KH TX3 (Ford Escort GT) be a good option in sourcing not only a BPT engine but also other goodies? I'm not sure how much of these parts are interchangable or just wasted though. The price isn't cheap at $4500 but there would be parts to sell afterwards to recoup costs.

Your thoughts, concerns welcome including enquiry suggestions if I contact the seller.

    • BP6T Engine. (I think he means BPT)
    • T2817R Ball bearing Turbo
    • Custom Front Mount.
    • Custom Stainless Piping
    • Blitz Dual Port BOV welded onto pipe.
    • Custome K&N Pod Filter setup
    • 2.5in Exhaust, silenced.
    • Oil, Boost and Temp Gauges.
    • JVC head unit, with MTX sub and Sony Xplod Amp
    • Custom Short Shifter, makes all the short shifters out there feels like trucks
    • Heavy Duty Clutch
    • 17' Starcorp Rims, new rear tyres still got them prickly tyres thingy.
    • Slotted and Drilled Fron Disc Brakes.
    • Momo Styled Steering Wheel
    • Powered Mirrors

There are other parts I could strip from this car including the interior!

EDIT: Buying this car now would be possible if I can convince my other half to sell her Mazda 121 (bubble car) with me making up the difference she gets this powerhouse until I can afford to start the swap She kinda loses a car at the end of it though hehe.

Thats awful pricey for a 92 anything but corvette, and pushing it at that, but if that car is at a solid running capacity, (ive never swapped drivetrains) i'd assume everything but maybe the right driver side axel is there for a swap.

If you pay that much, your looking at a loss as far as cash goes, but yea, it would be ideal for a donor if you wanted to tear into it. The exhaust would probably need modded slightly, the "costom front motor mount" would be trash, and you still need to fab your own mounts.

All in all, i wouldn't do it, the car is worth more as-is than as a donor.

Fair call, I'll hold off and buy the BPT the regular way when I'm ready. Thanks for the feedback.

i think the tx3 your looking at would be better off as a dd tbh.

That's okay, I don't particularly like them as a car so I'll keep my festy as the dd and just save up for a BPT later.

I've set myself a goal. Put a $15,000 dent in my mortgage and then I can start saving up for the BPT and other parts. I'm about 15% towards that target currently... Life was so much simpler before mortgages

Well since this is the sellers daily driver I don't think he'd take too warmly at the suggestion of stripping parts off it If I was buying it I could help you out but I've decided it's not in the best interests at this stage, however if I end up doing anything like this in the future (and that's always a possibility) you'll be the first to know.
