  • Festiva VSS?

I need to install or find a place to tap into a vehicle speed sensor on my car.

I want to install an MPGuino and that requires a vss signal to compute instant and average miles per gallon among many other things.

I know the speedometer is cable driven, not digital. There's a vss inline on that cable on cars with stock cruise control. Unfortunately, few Festivas came with cc.

Is there another car I can simply grab an inline vss off of or is there somewhere in the gauge cluster where the car's speed is turned into an electrical signal? I remember seeing someone on here try to use a thunderbird speedometer cable with inline vss without much luck. Otherwise, is there another solution someone's tried?

Try some of the other cars that came with newer non-g-series transmissions. I know my EGT trans that had cruise stock has an output for an electric VSS, but its much shorter i believe than the stock unit in the festiva and wouldnt work. Try a later probe or MX6. These cars almost all came with cruise control and a different style of transmission that i think had a longer speedo input gear.

Perhaps Damkid still has one to compare with from the transmission he is using in his car?

Napa and rockauto sell the vss for festivas with cruise. Goes inline with the speedo cable I think. No idea how many pulses/mile though.

Let me know how this works out. I've always wanted to get an mpguino.

Wonder if the kia rio that is the new darling on here for g series would have a cable that works too.

The cool thing with the pulses per mile thing if it is off you can adjust your brain box in the car to compensate and get it close. I was going to buy one of those myself at one time.

I always wanted to try the MAP sensor modification for cruise control, so you can dial in a specfic load on the engine, not a numerical speed value your car constantly hunts for.
