half shafts

ok now heres a question i have that i didnt really find any info on. i need to replace my half shafts (both) and i have a 93 5speed... i have a buddy that has half shafts but they are from the 4speed tanny.. i looked up the part at my second job (advance auto) and went back as far as they made the festiva which i believe is 86 ( correct me if im wrong) the computer only starts them out at 88 tho so i cant cross reference the half shafts for 86 and 87. so im curious what years were the 4speed trannys were put in and if it was only 86-87 are the half shafts the same as 88-93? i could buy reman but since this was my first car (from when i was 16) and its my bar car (drive to the bar with or anywhere thats iffy) i dont want to spend the money since i have my summer car and also another back up/winter car.. any info would help thanks

Axles are the same for all the festiva manual trans. They did start making them I think in 86-87 in the overseas market, but the first year for them in the states was 88, which is probably why the computer wouldn't go back farther. The 88 and 89 "L" model carb cars came with the 4 speeds all other US festivas got the 5 speed.

I'm assuming you are in the US (since you work at Advance) and that you are likely in the north (since you have both a summer and winter car), but I could be wrong. You can help us help you better by updating your location. Go to: "User CP" in the options at the top of the page, then click on "Edit your details" on the lefthand column. It will then let you enter whatever info you want about yourself, but the most important one is when you scroll down to "Location" fill that out and hit save changes. Doesn't have to be a very specific location if you don't feel comfortable with that, but at least what country and what area of that country will help out a lot. May even be a member near you who can lend a hand!
