  • Scrap metal thieves

Pulled this off a Model T forum:

Watch your parts carefully. As I was coming home from the Indiana Covered Bridge tour, 2-3 fellows were loading up my loose parts out of one of my barns, didn't discover it till Monday and by then they'd been sold as scrap metal and cut up and scrapped GONE FOREVER T front axles, pans, hogsheads, one T engine, rear end pcs, Vaporizer parts, lots of misc pcs, A cranks, front plates, some period tools. However Monday they stole both of my snowplows one off my snowplow truck, and o0ne fitted for my skid steer, also a stainless door and a buddys trailer and steel, I happened to see it going down the hyway and called my wife who called the law and followed them 40 miles plus across county lines; All 3 are now in jail facing multiple charges, found out last nite my rental house had AC unit gone, and basement pump and all inside basement wiring cut out DAMM I'm going to shoot somebody if I catch them, thev've hit me 3 times since Thursday last week. So Load your guns and watch your stuff and your neighbors as its getting bad here

my grandmas place out in the country is having the same stuff happen. scrappers are really gonna end up with stuff coming down on them if this stuff keeps going at the rate it is.

i bet not much longer theres gonna be restrictions on scrappers like there are on pawn shops.

Its already happening, state by state, just nothing federal yet. At the local scrapyard I frequent they have to scan your DL before you can scrap anything. It was always that way for cars, but at this point they are doing it for washers, driers and toaster ovens. I don't care lol, everything I haul is legit, usually given to me for using my van and trailer to help people move or helping them pick up new appliances. But I've seen a couple of guys get back in their trucks and leave with their load when asked for their license lol. I don't think the state is requiring it yet, but there's legislation about it in process already.
      No festiva for me ATM...

If I was that Model T guy I would be sitting on porch at night with my shotgun in my hands. That's not just some scrap metal that was taken, that was some irreplaceable parts and not only the parts but also it was his passion just like our festivas are to us. It's a sad world out there for people to rip off the common folk just to make a few bucks here and there.

I had to wait 3 days for money on aluminum wheels in california. I think if you are scrapping more than 50 bucks you wait until the next day no matter what you bring in. If its not bottles glass or cans they fingerprint and ID you.

They should toss those meth addicts a hard hat and make them load what they brought into the back to get their money. Maybe they would sweat out all the drugs.

Had the same thing happen at my work a few weeks ago. Some crooks pulled up at 2am and loaded two metal bins (price for us is $700 each) and the metal cover for our hydraulic lift. For all that they might have made like 60-80 bucks! Sorry thieves!

Thats exactly the kind of stuff getting jacked from my grandparents place in the country. my grandpa collected model a and t parts and the thieves have been taking old tractor radiators, old car radiators, and now last week an entire model A cab just for scrap prices.

stuffs worth more on ebay, people are complete idiots and i firmly believe they need to be shot on site.

Thieves have been stealing 200-lb. steel manhole covers for several years now and getting $10-15 each from their friends at scrap metal shops. They've also been stealing traffic signs and ripping the copper wiring out of bank-owned (foreclosed) homes.

                  See:

I don't know what the inside diameter of a manhole cover is, but I'll bet your Festy suspension would never be the same again after even a 25mph encounter with an uncovered manhole.

Legal and lethal simplicity itself: the scrap metal thieves were overcome by accidental exposure to heavy metals (ie buckshot).

Nah use steel shot... you can't let some thieves make you ruin the habitat.

About a week ago here in Fort Wayne Indiana someone stole dozens of brass or bronze flower vases off of gravestones in a local cemetery. Nothing is sacred!
