  • Temperture Gauge Sensor

Howdy - Were there 2 different sizes of temperture gauge sensors? I bid on one on Ebay and the guy wanted me to make sure it's the right size. His is out of a '92 and would be going into an '88. Thanks!

There are multiple temperature locations, sometimes confused with the fan switch. On some cars you can flip their locations and they work ok, especially if you threw all of them in a box and can't remember what mazda engine they came from...On the festiva the wrong one will bottom out even if the threads match, so its a good idea to be spoecific, take a picture if needed.

It's a MazdaFordnKia thing, and you will understand!

The sensor on the thermostat housing is for the fan switch, the heat gauge sensor is located in the front of the head itself close to the T-stat housing..... at least on the EFI's they are, can't be certain about the carby's though

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

the 88 heat sensor threads into bottom right side of radiator,it has 2 wires going to it.the newer one goes to the top of the engine facing you when hood ids open,it only has one wire.the 88 should have 2 wires.

Hey good job on resurrecting a year old thread :thumbright:

Yeah, that thing in the bottom of the rad is the Coolant Temperature Switch (B-29) 2 wires (GN&BK) for the carb heater below 62ºF not a temp sensor. Not to be confused with the Coolant Thermo Switch (B-07) single wire n/c switch (GR/R) in the thermostat housing controlling the fan relay by releasing the ground when temps go above 207ºF. The Coolant Thermo Sensor (B25)(thermistor) is on the back side of the engine under the intake manifold (BR/R & BK wires) reports temp to the ECA for fuel/timing/emissions control. The Coolant Temperature Sensor (C04) is shown as a switch in the head below the thermostat with a single wire (Y/W) that operates the guage in the instrument cluster. So we have carb heater, fan control, ECA input and temp guage all looking at your dirty antifreeze.
