My parents have the 4-cyl Escape, and drive very granny-like, and they get 29-32mpg (Miles/ US gallon), and it is a standard!

Still that is pretty sweet if you need the storage and functionality of an SUV, and still want to get decent mpg! There are a couple things you could do to max you gas mileage. Take a look at my Festiva! I think I have the best (or second best) average gas mileage around, and that is before my Kamm-back and wheel skirts.

That sounds very realistic. High really to me. My element never got over 25 highway.

How nicely did you drive it? how fast was your HWY speed? I had a 6cyl Ford Taurus that got the following mpg at these speeds.....

        110kmh (69mph) = 24mpg
        100kmh (62mph) = 28mpg
        90kmh (56mph) = 31mpg

Its all about driving style.........and Kammbacks, lol!

Not conservatively. My dad got 29 mpg out of his 92 crown vic at 80 mph with ac on. His 05 Grand marquis gets 27 driven like that. But SUV's are just thirsty.

That and weight, and moving parts of the often 4wd drivetrain.

Yes, my parents is also FWD only. Make sure to add your Escape to Fuelly.com, as it makes it easy to track your mileage. Click the link in my sig. (Notice the 46.4 average mpg! OH YEAH!) lol

I didnt know that was you?!? :eeeeeeknever looked at the name!) It has always bugged me that some guy on Fuelly was able to get a higher average than me, and I seem to never catch up! Did you drive all HWY and in Cali or something? In the summer my average is 48-49, but the winters here I only get 43-44. (snow tires and lots of RAIN)

AND I AM TOO SPECIAL! MY MOM TOLD ME! haha

My best was a highway trip behind a semi going 60 the whole way.

Darlo - keeping track of my mileage has never really been that important to me, so to be honest the fuelly.com doesn't really interest me to join up on, but thanks for the link anyway
