  • apparently hydroplaning is required to get a GA license

From the "Parent/teen Driving Guide" which is required to be completed by kids in GA who have their learners permit and are getting ready to take the test to get a full class-D license.

"Hydroplaning happens when the tires float on top of water and
can occur at slow speeds depending on tire pressure, tire
tread, and water depth. Simulating hydroplaning can be
done on a rainy day in a large parking lot free of obstacles.
Using cones, have your child “draw” a figure eight
around them at a very slow speed. Have the novice driver
increase speed gradually to the point of hydroplaning.
When this occurs, coach your child to reduce speed and
to look and steer in the direction he or she wants the
    vehicle to travel."

So a parent and a kid get in the car in the rain and slide around a big parking lot together. Sounds like fun haha.
    No festiva for me ATM...

Haha probably. Mom asked me to do that practice with my youngest sister. We're trying to decide if we want to do it in Dad's old Volvo 240 or my Miata. No matter what, its gotta be RWD though

Down here in the land of horrible drivers , we have to do 120hrs of driving , minimum of 20 night hours.. But hydroplaning is something i used to do into my road if it was wet and mum was on the phone.. and Kellen302 " learning to drive with my parents, that sounds like a lot of tense voices and scolding/yelling in terror, not to mention a few foot sized holes in the passenger floorboard " + i used to get a good punch in the arm. Good luck with the driving lessons.

So if you took your teen and set up your cones on a state parking lot on a rainy weekend and a cop came to give you grief, you can whip out the Parent/Teen Driving Guide and say the state of GA told me to do it.
