I thought this post I made at the end of a thread; about newly available '64 1/2 Ford Mustang bodies, was sort of lost there. Yet worth sharing:
This reminds me of something which seemed interesting at a local oval 3/8 mile dirt track I've been to a couple races at now; one in '70 and another this past summer. [http://www.skagitspeedway.com/]
I didn't go and see these cars; but, the track's email about the class was pretty intriguing; racing 5/8-scale, 1928-1948 style cars powered by motorcycle engines.
People have specially built bodies that are downsized imitations of American made cars constructed to strict regulations; using large motorcycle engines and transmissions, to power rear wheel drive, open wheel sprint car type, oval dirt track racers. These dwarf cars make me wonder what a person would have to do in order to make one road legal? That would seem fun, if the interiors were decent and everything worked well.
I found my one recent race enough to make me wonder about putting life in harm's way like that, I couldn't really enjoy watching except in fascination at the reality.
Which was a deep sort of paradox; as I know my early adult life and a prior juvenile interest in motor sports and specifically auto racing my father encouraged, are what has made me as safe a driver as I am and seem to've always been.
A lot of people there seemed to echo my feelings; so an interesting slice of humanity, at a peculiar pastime to say the least.
