That all depends on how far "to work and back" is? Calculate your actual mileage and then see if there's something you can do.

I get 42-44 mpg around town and upwards of 50 on the highway with, shall we say, spirited driving

Thats in imperial gallons by the way....

        Mileage

I got about 38 MPG last time I checked, for combined driving. Probably a little more HWY then city. Some pleasure driving. Zoom, putt, Zoom.

Fueleconomy.gov has some tips. A block of wood under the gas pedal always helps, prevents tickets too, and its cheap.
BTW has anyone heard of using acetone in the tank to improve mileage? There are a few articles around the net about it, I think I might try it, the amount the say to use is very small, I think 3000 to 5000 to 1, not sure.
I noticed last week I got about 28 MPG in town on Walmart gas, then this week I got HEB gas, I noticed already the mileage is going to be higher, but it may be to that I fixed the idle so it isn't at 1100 all the time now, that may have a little to do with it.

            mileage

Id bet if that bock of wood slipped under the break pedal it wouldnt be cheap, or prevent a ticket.
Maybe we should go to shortenourlegs.gov.
            An other great gov.idea.

proved and good ways for you to improve you cars gas mileage with out blowing it up with some rocket fuel would be.. change your spark plugs if they aren't new, plug wires and disty cap. check your air filter to see if its dirty, if it is replace it.. always keep up with the oil changes, proper air pressure in you tires also helps..if you want to take things a step further, a free flowing muffler will help, platinum spark plugs, cold air intake.. oh and i also have a gas saver Gage that i watch in times where i choose not to fill up but it also will help you get an idea of what speed and rpm you car is getting the best gas mileage..the link for it is http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...002121/c-10101

i usually try to get tucked into the slipstream of an eighteen wheeler about 3 ft from their rear bumper is good......you have to be on your toes though cause they can brake suddenly...

My dad did that on the Pennsy turnpike once. Shut the car off and reclined the seat about 4 feet behind the truck! Kept at it for 100 miles or so.

Hummmm, My Dad always threatened me ,that he was going to put a block of wood under my go pedal ,a long time ago
As for the drafting off the rear of a 18 wheeler ,some don't mind ,
Some do and they will give you a BRAKE CHECK !!
I think it's neat to feel the difference,as you roll up on a semi ,you slowly keep letting off the gas ,to the point where you are hardly touching it .

I've been using acetone for about a month now. Too soon to compare to the previous 6 months, but it looks to be helping. The idle is way smoother and butt dyno says there's more power.

Just keep an eye on your fuel lines and around the outlets on the tank. Acetone is very corrosive to rubber and synthetic rubber, which means it will eventually eat through the gasket for the fuel pump, or a fuel line. At low concentration it will take a long time, but the gas sits in your tank 24/7, so who knows how long.
