  • New Aspire

Here is the long awaited image of my 93 Festiva deer-slayer. I think the roof is the only body panel with no deer damage. The grill area shows the results of a 65 MPH deer contact. Glad it wasn't a cow.
This little pocket rocket has seen me through the last five years of college and shows no sign of slowing down. I picked up some speed in the quarter when the rear bumper fell off...
Next to it is my my new Aspire! My kids think I am nuts to spend $400 but I need a respectable car to impress the ladies. Now I must find a transmission, something is terribly loose in it's 5 speed so it is currently undrivable.
Pretty clean for a Michigan car.

Son, let me give you a bit of advice. (I use the somewhat patronizing "Son" because I KNOW you are younger than me, perhaps young enough to be my son, so bear with me).

Looking for a woman is like hunting deer. If you want to get a trophy buck, you have to (A) Go up in the high mountains where the trophy buck lives and (B) Have a fine, long-range rifle with which to shoot it.

However, if all you have the money to do is to go down to the city landfill with a .22 loaded with ratshot, well, you know what you'll be bringing home. Not a trophy deer, that's for sure!

DO buy the Aspire because it's an inexpensive way to conserve the world's resources and oil. DO buy the Aspire because it is fun to drive and fun to make modifications to. DO buy the Aspire because your fellow enthusiasts will be interested in what you do with it.

But DON'T buy a $400, 18-year-old car because you think that some woman is going to be impressed by it. That's .22-at-the-landfill territory!

        There; you've been duly warned!

Just my opinion but I think you would have a better chance at picking up chicks in a festy:p

Thanks for the advice Lannis. We have so much fun.
I do have an 89 with deer damage on the roof. I was towing it home when I ran over a herd of deer.

And here I am (pictures from yesterday afternoon) preparing a once perfectly good but unwanted Aspire fpr a trip to the junkyard after buying it solely for the hubs, swaybar, wheels and rear suspension.

Deer - the bane of my existence.

My Festy is a salvage car from a 2003 deer strike. And my wife's Buick is sporting a smashed-in door and fender from the latest deer attack ....

Mudder: Had the donor Aspire been a 5 speed I might have spent some more time on it just so as to have a spare tranny. I personally have never had any use for autos. Autos are downright dead without a starter/battery life etc whereas firing up and limping home a manual is often still feasible.

Yes to the Escort headlamp, like the radiator it is held in with baling wire and/or bungee cords. I have two 93 GT's.
I can't find any 5 speeds for the Aspire, I think I may have to learn to rebuild.
