  • 02 Rio transmission

I'm gonna be heading over to the JY tomorrow or wednesday, I've seen alot of comments about the rio trannies being bolt up G series for b6 & bp swapped cars. I know there's a transmission sitting in a 02 rio, with both axels still attached to the steering knuckles, engine has already been pulled and I don't know where the flywheel is.

My question is, how would I know for sure if it's the G series, and would anyone be interested in it? I could probably take the time to get the axels out in one piece if needed, I think I heard they are a replacement for needing the capri axels?

Well if you can count inboard/outboard axle splines. That will give some indication. But visually I dont know if there is a casting change?

I counted the splines for the shaft sticking out of the transmission, and I could be wrong, but I want to say there were 21 splines for the clutchplate, can anyone confirm that's the number we're looking for? Or does that even matter? The passenger side axel for this transmission is much the same as an aspire axel, in that it doesn't have a mounting point to the block, just goes straight to the passenger hub.

Take a few pics of it and post them here, I should be able to tell you if it's a G series or not, hell I've torn down enough of them lol

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Hhaha.. I'll see if I can get off work in time to stop by before they close, I didn't have my phone yesterday or I would have taken a ton. I didn't see any markings on the top half, and I wasn't about to go crawling around in the mud to get under it! Might be a few days before I can get back out there tho. I may end up just going and buying it next weekend on the off chance it will work for something, for the price he's asking it would make cool yardart if nothing else.

There's only an identification plate riveted to the case right by where the drivers side axle goes, other then that there's no markings on a G series
