  • royal purple?

well, today was very slow at work. so i brought my festy in for an oil change and on a whim decided to go with the royal purple 10 w-30.

having never used it before i am skeptical. but i figured it would be neat to try something new.

so i was wondering who uses what oil?
who is picky and who believes "it all comes out of the same ground."

On a festy royal purple might be overkill. On a 500hp monster you'll probably pick up 15-20 horses. I'm going back to dino.. the b3's like to drink Plantuim and Syntec or drip whichever it's in the mood for.

The Festy gets treated to Pennzoil 10w30 it does not mind.
The S-10 is treated to Castrol Syntec 5w50 full synthetic

The numbers reflect the protection at different temp's ? where is Dan when you need him.

The numbers have to do with the viscosity of the oil. The first number is for when it is cold and the second number is for when it is warm. At least that is the way I was told it was.

I knew the numbers was the viscosity, but i was thinking there was another formula related to the numbers ,about the protection factor ? I can't remember ,CRS  OH NO not crs.

And the bigger the number the thicker !
smaller # it gets thinner, like 0w30 is for extreme cold ,

well i wasn't shooting for huge power increase.
the car gets driven very conservatively right now, as it is my only way to work. with almost 200k its starting to show its age, leaks and burns oil.
plus it needs a clutch, axle, inner tie rod ends, and the right front wheel bearings replaced.
and with all that wrong i still average about 37 miles to the gallon..
not to mention it looks like it's been worked over with a hammer.
but it starts every morning (knock on wood) and i love the way it drives and handles, well mostly. i am sure it would be better if i fixed it up a little.
the royal purple was mostly because it costs me very little and i had nothing better to do. until now i hadn't payed much attention to what went in the crank case. mostly dirt cheap wall-mart super tech oil, and i haven't had Any issues with it.

                    later,

                    Ian L.

If it burns or leaks oil it will do it worse with royal purple.. but hey if it's cheap go for it or just send it to me Put some love into that festiva and it will last another 200k.

i think royal purple = crap. none of the race engines i have like it at all.. i have a 2.3 turbo svo mustang 700 flywheel hp , and a 5.0 turbo 553 hp at the wheels and they both make the worst racket the crapple purple, the whole valve train sounds like its full of sand.. only oil that runs the best that i have found is the castrol synthetic blend.

well i am not impressed with the royal purple. my motor smokes worse wen cold, although it is a little lesser when warm.
however there was no change in the leaking.
oh well, it was just an exercise in rampant consumerism.
looks like its back tho the super tech, maybe this time 15-w40, that shouldn't ooze out as fast...(lol)

yea, if you go to a different oil change place they might try to sell you some engine flush cause royal purple is dark. they'll tell you your oil is black and it should be a lighter color. hey do they sell "qmi" ptfe at that place? i put some in my stock fest and noticed a big difference in fuel mileage and performance.. I'm not trying to sell the stuff but we all try things out and thats the only thing i can say did what it said it would..
