What can you guys tell me @ a 1994 1.6 5spd MX3. Anyone own one of these? It looks like its loosly based on th 323 chassis? What tranny will it have? I noticed wikpedia states that in Jan of 1994 they switched to a DOHC for the 1.6. I'm not sure of the production date of the car I'm interested in. Any info will be appreciated.

1994 will have the DOHC B6 and if it is a manual transmission it will be the F-series. The dash changed in 94 to nicer design and is preferred over the earlier version. It shares the same chassis as the 323/protege/escort also known as the BG chassis. It has a different head compared to the B6T found in the 323 GTX. The head and intake were redesigned for better flow and have been choice for upgrading on to the older motors.

US got the 1.6, JDM probably was the 1.5. so everybody was right.

The MX-3 is called an EC chassis because of it's wider over all width and slightly different rear braking setup, along with engine bay capacity for a factory V6. It is still largely based on the BG though, just wider. I believe when they came out there was an add campaign with the slogan "wider is better" or something similar. I had a 93 with the 1.6 single cam and the F-series... that thing was SLOW!!! I hear the DOHC was a bit better speed wise.

What part of it is wider? The V6 tranny and axles will bolt up into a escort gt so it can't be that much wider... The crazy add campaigns will look for anything to make it sound better.

the wheel base is an inch wider. the V6 guys either have to convert to larger ball joints from the RX7 that go an inch wider, or use MX-3 LCA's that are longer so they don't have axle binding issues.

Sometimes they get lucky with machining differences in axle lengths and find a set that does not require the added width.

How is that little V6 on performance? Is it a durabable engine ? So the Probe V will bolt in.But you are stuck using F series axles due to the extra length?

V6 cars (92-93 in the US) had G-series transmissions.
