  • Another noob Q on Turbo's t3 t4????

I recently was given a turbo chrager. I dont know crap about them other than they spool more air and make you go faster....lml.

Okay, so the turbo i have says:
    type: T04E
    Part no: t3/t4

    other markings say A/R .50 ......and M12

so what do i have? a T3 or T4? and which one is better?

I will have other questions later on how to install...etc, but we'll just start with this.

If you could break it down for me, that would be great as i know nothing about turbos.

From the sounds of it you have a Chinese turbo that is a t3/t4 hybrid turbo. Not sure on the size. But they can be had on eBay for around 150 to 200 dollars.

From what I have heard it is a t3 exhaust side with a t4 compresser side for quicker spooling. Not exactly positive on that but is what I have heard from many people.

with the hybrid, you get a T3 exhaust housing and T4 compressor housing. the idea is for the turbo to come into boost sooner and then stay in boost longer due to the fact that it can provide more CFM than the T3 compressor housing and also not overheat the intake charge at higher boost levels.

It would probably be fairly laggy even on a BP. It's more suited for something at least 2.0L IMO

Start by "throwing" some knowledge into your head by picking up a copy of Corkie Bell's "Maximum Boost".

Then you'll know how to "throw on" a:
make it yourself turbo manifold (there is no "ready made" mani for the b3)
                          Boost controller
                          Adjustable Fpr
                          Charge pipe
                          Down pipe
                          Coolant lines in and out
                          Oil line in
                          Oil tee
                          Oil restrictor
                          Oil drain out
                          Bung on oil pan
                          Blow off or bypass valve
                          Ic or Meth injection
                          Air fuel ratio gauge
                          Boost gauge
                          O2 Voltage clamp

                          How many things is that?

Yeah "Throw on a turbo" ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,

my t3/t4 to4e 57 trim .62ar spools instant at 4000 rpm.... if you hold it at 4000 and put your foot down, you can watch the boost come up as fast as the vac went down... at 3000 rpm it will spool fast... and the great thing about big turbos, they hold the power right to the redline.... my 323 gt had a huge power drop
