Pre-cut window tint

Has anyone ever bought this off ebay? There is no way i'm paying someone $100 to tint the three rear windows so I thought about the DIY $15 per window but I checked ebay and found out there is pre cut tint. I already have my rear glass out so it would be pretty easy.

The "best" around that does most of the body shop tint said he would do mine for $200 the following Monday. That was 2 weeks ago...and no tint guy. I am really interested in this as well.

I just got mine a week ago. Haven't installed yet because its too cold. The tint looks good. I got all 5 windows for $24 shipped!

Well it's too late if it sucks. I just ordered it, the total was $26.97 shipped. I'll let you guys know how it goes in a week or so since im in the middle of paint.

I chose %50 for the front windows and 2% for the rear windows. Any tint on the front windows is illegal here in California. Hoping driving a festiva and the light tint will keep the cops off.

I've done the rear side windows, pretty simple with the glass out. It's the compound curve in the rear that gets the four-letter words flying. I gave up and had it tinted professionally (and watched them like a hawk).
The trick is... a heat gun. They wet the outside of the glass, lay on the tint, smooth it out, and apply heat to the wrinkles before separating the film and moving the tint to the inside.

Jeez, total nube here, the tint goes on the outside and the heatgun is used on the glass from the inside or right on the tint ? My guns all have high and low, which works ?

"moving the tint to the inside"? Do you have to remove the window, turn it so the inside faces you, do the deed , then put the glass back with tint inside??

I've bought and tinted about 6 or 7 of those kits. They work pretty good. The back window sucks to tint. I remove the front and side windows. The quality is good.

The lunch break project just moved up to weekend status..
Would the rear window be easier if I removed it?

It looks like my truck was done with the tint on the inside, but its turning purple..
The logos went on the outside top 6" of the windshield, and it still looks new.

I might go ahead and order a kit..

I do window tinting... We cut the film and heat shrink it to the glass on the outside and install it on the inside... (heatshrinking is "melting" the film to curve with the glass as windows are not flat) You lay the tint on the outside of the window with the liner facing you... Install inside the car with a spray bottle full of water and 4 drops of joy dish soap.. More soap equals more slip and longer to dry out. Less soap makes it harder to instal but makes it quicker to dry out. I hope that helps out a little..

Insider on film quality: lower end films turn from a charcoal to a purple due to how it is made. It is simply film with die on top of it so the sun fades and discolors it. Higher end films are metalic, so they actually have metal in them to get the shade and heat reduction and they do not fade and discolor. This technology has been used for the past 10 years or so, thats why tint has the reputation to turn purple. Like everythig as time goes on they find ways to make of better. With this advance in film, you dont only benifit from the privacy aspect of the film but you gain better heat reduction from the metalic films.

brynjohnson is correct. I just tinted my windows and I ef'ed up the rear window. I kept getting fingers that would not go away when you squeegied them out and ended up trying to hard card them which caused a crease in the tint....very bad and crappy looking. Finally i found a kid on youtube doing it and explaining it...he is a beast. spray rear window (outside) ..squeegy it down a bit...cut film to exact rubber gasket...then get a heat gun and shrink it to the curvature. Then clean inside window thoroughly apply tons of spray (baby shampoo and water works great)...remove clear backer film...and squeegy it from center out doing window in 1/4's. If you get any fingers, use heat gun while squeegying them out.
