  • FNG from central Va.

Hi all, greetings from Goochland,va. 40 years old and I've been in and around cars for years, mostly V8's and big cars, but I have always had a soft spot for butt-nugget beaters..lol But up until now that gas is creep...err racing towards 4 and 5 bucks a gallon I have dropped my guard and my pride and picked up a couple, Picked up a 99 focus SE for the wife, its got 299k on it but runs great, and Last night while surfing the bay I ran across a 93 festi with 127k on it for less than 600 bucks and it has 12 min to go to the end..lol So I bid without reading, It was 3 hrs away so I figured it was a deal, well After I bid and was the highest bidder I read that its "Blown up" I was like damn ...But after looking around I found a 94 aspire engine and 5 speed trans both for 500 so I figured worst comes to worst I could replace the engine..well I won and after I talked with the owner he said he had replaced the head gasket cause it was blown and after installing a new head and gasket it was still bad..so he gave up and decided to sell it, i drove down today to pick it up on a dolley and I go out and fire it up and it drives on the dolly , has numerous exhaust leaks, they said every mechanic they talked to said they couldn't fix it,,,well I got it home and start tinkering with it, and I can tell its got a miss, and the valves are raising hell so I pull the valve cover off and run em, thay are nearly double the clearance ..lol and 1 was too tight, so I also did a compression test and every cyl is near 200 psi, so I put the plugs in and fire it up, runs alot better but still has a slight miss, well I start pulling plug wires and turns out the no.1 injector is bad..LMFAO so I'll replace the injectors and fix the exhaust and It would be a sweet ride.
    Wifes focus..

    Just installed new tires...

It's OK to lose Focus. However, it's not ok to lose Festy. Some stupid poetry for you there. Welcome!

Its got some rust, spent alot of time up north , but its nothing major and can be taken care of, I also spent alot of time with MKII VW golfs and jettas. so I now exactly how addicting these beaters are.

I'm sure they are, even dohc 1.8liter BP injectors are so I would think so.

Congrats on your purchase. I'm curious as to how you adjusted the valves on a '93 which has hydraulic adjusters. It might have an earlier head or rocker shaft which would answer the question I asked several months ago about interchangeability.

I would think that Festiva and Aspire injectors are compatible, but I'm not sure. You might go to Rockauto.com and look up part numbers to see if they match. That's how you can do a lot of comparisons online between not only Festivas and Aspires but also other cars.

Jim, as for your VW knowledge, you might go to our suspension forum and post any ideas you may have on using A1 and/or A2 shocks, springs and other parts for a better rear setup. It's been done before, but not all particulars have been publicized.

I would like to do some adjustable rears (Koni, Bilstein, etc.) for a build some day, but so far I haven't looked into it too much.

rock auto has different numbers for the Injectors for each car, so no help there, but I pulled a set and got a free pocket discount and grabbed a passenger side mirror from a 323 while I was there , Hope it fits..lol
