  • ELVIS: SOHC Turbo Daily Driver Build

    Project: Elvis
    Date Started: 12-01-2011
Engine: B6 SOHC or B8 SOHC? Still doing my research
Other: Mercedes 300SD Turbo, Turbo Beatle Intercooler
Suspension: Leaning toward KYB (need advice, I’m not completely aware of all my options)
    Transmission: Stock festiva (for now)
Paint & Body: New front end from one of my parts car, complete color swap

Background: I have owned this Festiva for about 6 months, I acquired it through a trade. It was lowered by cutting the coils. Owner claimed an Aspire suspension swap had been done to the car. Yoshimiru exhaust pipe (doesn’t sound that bad), FMS cam, aspire header, not that bad of a car. The only thing wrong with it was, it ticked like crazy. At the end of November I rear ended a new BMW 7 series (not fun, those things are tanks), lucky for me he was going through a divorce and his insurance had lapsed. Bad news: Elvis was totaled. Good news: perfect candidate for a daily drive build.

My Dad and I are starting with the body first. I am still debating on which engine I plan on swapping in.

Yea upload to a site and post the "direct link for layouts" here with the "tags" [img] [/img]

There's a couple sites, photobucket and imageshak require accounts, but there's other sites like tinypic.com that allow single uploads too.

Below are some of the before pictures. I do not have any pics of right after the wreck, these are pics of when we first started on it.

This is the parts car I brought home for the front end.

There will be more pics coming soon!

Looks like your getting it fixed up nicely from the crash!

              1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
              1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

The b6 sohc loves boost. I have a newer b6 (90-94) with a dsm t25, it screams! Never looking back. Best idea I've ever had.
Im not driving a Festiva because I'm poor. I drive a Festiva because i want to!

bad news, you don't have the aspire swap, those are stock festy wheels which ahve a different bolt pattern than the aspire,
But your work is coming along very nicely

Well, he said Aspire suspension swap, not necessarily brake swap. Though most people don't do one without the other, it has been done before. But yes, definitely still festiva brakes under there.
                      No festiva for me ATM...

(Disclaimer: I am a Newbie so the format of these posts might not be the best, but I’m working on it. I am still currently in the process of this build but I’m a few weeks behind on posting pictures.)

First we started on the door jams since it was a color change. We mocked the front end up on the car then removed it to paint the jams. I decided on a charcoal grayish color, it is actually a factory Harley Davidson color we had left over from painting. I used scotch brite on the jams and hit the bad spots with some 320 grit.

Next, I sanded the inside of the doors. First I removed all the rubber weather stripping, and then sanded the inner door with 320 grit. I then tacked everything off using a tack rag; this removes all the oil and any residue on the metal. Filled the paint gun with some color and sprayed.
