  • escort mk4

Ok I am wondering which yr the mk4 escort was sold in the US. I found what yrs in other countries but I dont know if it is the same for the US. My reasoning is because right now I am living in Germany and I found a company that sells cosworth styled body kits here but not in the US. I am tempted to buy a kit and than when I get back to the US simply buy an escort GT.

Not sure if the Mk4 Escort in Europe is the same as here. You may want to post a pic. We never got the Mk1 and Mk2 they did. I'd love to have one of those!

yeah i'd love to have a mk1. But the british cars are different than the american cars, what body style are you looking at 1st gen 1981-1990 with a facelift in mid-1985, 2nd gen 1991-96, 3rd gen 1997-02

From what I read on Wikipedia the mk4 was produced from 86-90 atleast in other countries. Here is the description of the kit looking at and a pic of what it will basically look like.Front and rear bumpers are direct replacements fitting onto the original mountings. Front wings are replacements whilst side sills and rear wings bond on. Included : Front bumper / airdam with clear indicators, driving lights and grill mesh, rear bumper, 1 pr front wings, 1 pr side skirts, 1 pr rear wings with petrol flap cover, rear upper / lower spoilers.

i don't think it will fit without modifications, the front fenders and bumpers are different as is the rear bumper i believe. The sideskirts probably bolt on but do to safety regulations i doubt the front and rear bumpers will work. but i don't know for sure

Well the front fenders are actually replacement ones since they are wider and atleast front bumper shouldnt be a big prob since it comes with a new grill and lights. Only thing I could see is rear bumper maybe needed worked on and if the hoods are different. But I might not do this anyways because I have to find out how many people a escort can hold... Looking for a fun little vehicle while im rebuilding my 68 mustang but has to seat 5.

Oh and the pic of the black car is of a mk4 escort(86-90) but the kit makes it look like a mkV. The same company makes one for a mk5 but it doesnt have wider fenders and I just want the whole widebody look...

Escort can seat a driver and 3 passengers comfortably, i think the years you are looking at have seatbelts for 4 passengers (not sure, been awhile since we had ours) but it would be horribly uncomfortable.

Well it would only be for maybe 2months if that but if it only seats 4 that wont work... That is what it is like with every car I think about.... 1st gen dsm, probe, escort, festiva, fox body, camaro,

i'd recomend an old extended cab truck, theyre cheap, seat 5 passengers(if they have a bench seat front and rear), and its always nice to have a truck handy

Well I thought about it so I could tow my mustang to my new duty station. But it makes no sense to have 3 vehicle that get junky mpg....

unfortunately with you wanting to seat that many people you're pretty well stuck with something about the size of a taurus (mine doesn't get great mileage but i beat the snot out of it, its got 230xxxmiles and hasn't had a tune up in last 100k-atleast) but its reliable and seats 5 passengers and a driver.
