^I actually think the Volt is the first semi-intelligent hybrid or electric design. With the backup engine in case the battery runs out you have the same fuel up possibilities as a normal car, yet, because the gas engine acts like a generator and doesn't directly drive the wheels it never surpasses a few thousand RPM, so it gets excellent fuel consumption while preserving that fuel up anywhere characteristic.
But cars shouldn't burn on their own, even after a week has passed since a crash.

What about the 1st gen Insight? Even running on the ICE they get awesome gas mileage. And they're aluminum... no rust!

Eric Bolling, a guy on Fox News, was given a Volt on loan by GM because he was trashing them on air. Instead of a 40-mile battery range, two days in a row it had a 25-mile battery range, after 12-hour overnight charging both nights. Also it only has a 10-gallon gas tank. Between the 25 electric miles and the 10 gallons of gas, he said it basically had a 30 MPG fuel usage. For a $47,000 car. Which is subsidized with $7,500 of our tax dollars in a rebate to purchasers.

                        Re: "Aluminum ... no rust"!

Aluminum most certainly does corrode. It's not as ugly as steel corroding ("rusting"); it turns to white powder, particularly in the presence of moisture.
