  • She's finally done it!

Well, folks, it's official. My wife has finally mastered the lost art of driving with a 5 speed. After much practice and a lot of broken traction, she's figured out how to smoothly operate a clutch. Now if I could keep her out of my driver's seat. Looks like I had better get another festy because she's falling in love with driving mine. For all you guys trying to teach another: she said it finally clicked when I had her start the thing going backwards with just the clutch, no throttle, without killing it.

thats how i learned to drive a stick, taught myself to drive my ranger (with less power than a festiva) without giving it any gas. I actually drove it one footed for a while just to see peoples reactions.

i guess the ras she got at the winter meet got her motivated, that and the promise of better mpg.

Congrats! It will be nothing but fun from now on. It will become second nature to you in no time. I wouldn't own anything but a stick shift. Dale, she definitely needs her own Festy now!
