x3, got one in every car. cost: $8 for breaker bar and socket at HF. Being able to change tire, priceless!

Where would one get these? My lug bolts are like a BB in a boxcar in these aftermarket wheels.

Most any place that sells aftermarket wheels should be able to get lug studs.

I bought "Gorilla" brand from a place that had them in bulk.

                  Hope this helps.

                  As for the original posting.

Years ago I took a cheap 4 way lug wrench that had one end split open and cut the offending end off. I then used a grinder to whittle it to a square 1/2" so I can use any size 1/2" drive socket that I needed to.

Do a search using "bolts studs" as the search parameters, in the "Custom, Suspension, Brakes and Wheels" forum.

I can get screw in style studs from amazon, and it's what I have on my aspire. Just be sure and used some red locktite when you screw them into the hubs

Most of my OEM lug wrenches have been bent useless from trying to remove alloy wheels that jobbers put on with air guns. The advice about buying a breaker bar/extension/socket is good. I now keep a dedicated ratchet in the car for that purpose.

VW wheel nuts have larger heads (17 or is it 18mm?) and have ball seats instead of cone shape but I've been successfully using them on my hub centric Ford wheels for months now.

17mm is correct. But once you switch to studs instead of bolts there's nothing stopping you from using ford/mazda/honda/chevy just about any US or Jap vehicle lug nuts. 60* taper seat and you're good!
