  • ford escort engine swap ?

if I can't find the 127 horse gt model can I get a non gt car and rebuild the engine with gt parts to get it to 127 horses? are those gt type parts available for a rebuild? also if I find one with a AT can or will that also swap out if the festy is a straight drive?

The non gt had the 1.9 Ford motor which is not at all similar to the bp in the gt. It's only practical use is as a boat anchor. Lol
89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power...

The non gt escort has a 1.9
Have you tried sourcing a protege instead? They seem easier to find, at least in my neck of the woods

shows you how much I know - so I need to find a 1.8 ford engine - how about its tracer counterpart?

Proteges are apparently common everywhere except the south. I believe the 91-96 escort gt, the 91-96 tracer LTS, and the 90-94 protege LX had the bp. Some of the later proteges had bps too

There are many engines you can swap into a festiva, Pretty much anything in the B series family can be swaped into a festiva.

Miata 1.6 DOHC, protege 1.6 DOHC, mx3 1.6 DOHC, etc.

The most common cars to come with the BP engine are so often missed in these descriptions. Lol Kia Sophia ( years?) And Mazda Miata (94-200?). The swaps are less defined in these threads, but the parts interchange. If you find a good low mileage long block at the salvage yard, you can buy all the necessary manifolds and accessories from members or on eBay.

I've heard that the KIA motor is a different engine, but it will still bolt to the g trans. Based on the bp, but not quite the same. No reason not to use it I'm just sayin... Lol

Wait... Does the EGT (late) engine bolt to the stock trans? Cuz I might have just found my swap if it does... I can pick one of those engines up relatively easily for about $250 at my local u-pull-it!

And yes, the original (early and mid gen) EGT's came with a 1.9L HO EFI motor. It was fairly potent for the size and weight of the car. The EXP had the same (exact) engine, but weighed more. :/

I used to have a 88.5 EGT (first mid-gen) and I miss it.

Up to 96 it does.after that they changed motors in them. Any of the Mazda b engines will bolt to the stock trans.

I don't consider anything w/ the zetec style engine an escort... I hate those cars. No particular reason... I just don't like them.

I might be wrong about this, but I think the Zetec blocks will bolt to the older style (1.9) transmissions. One or two holes might not line up.
