that stinks. I called cuz it was about to snow and they had NINE! lol

just removed the filters from all four injectors. took about 2 minutes. and the pintle caps are easy to remove with a damp paper towel. for now they're staying on and it's getting another 30 minutes or so in the sonic

An update...The ethylene glycol solution is cleaning very poorly,
I will leave it for a total of 24 hours but expect insignificant change

Cummins diesel, a respected manufacturer some time back issued
TSB's noting that the then current coolant blends did not have
enough anti-cavitation additives to prevent pin holing the cylinder
liners and pitting in other areas. Other engines have had the same
symptoms and in other areas as well. Engine coolant has been improved
in this regard considerably sense that time. As such I think my choice
for an ethylene glycol source may have rendered the ultr-sonic
        inoperable !

At 24 hours I will rinse the parts, re photo and try a new cocktail..
Any ideas for the recipe? It doesn't have to be pretty like this one!

          Damn, I remember that too!
Beleive Ford has similar issues with the 7.2L diesel.
And as far as I know, they do not make separate coolant for diesel vs gas, so all auto/truck coolant will have anti-cavitation additives.
          OK, lesson learned.
But we might learn something else, if we could find out what the anti-cavitation addiives were. Additionally, if we can find a source of additive free ethylene or propylene glyco they still might be usuable sonocation media.

Okay, 24 hour check. Rinsed parts and ultrasonic. Surprise, the carbon and varnish
did come off the piston but may have done the same just soaking in hot soapy
water. removed thr rod, and put in a slightly rusty chunk of broken ford V10 block
put in soap and water. Here is the pics from 24 hour. Soap is commercial hot water
machine soap for the transmission case cleaner.

More supersonic..That rod I pulled deserves another look, The solution cleaned the
rust from the river pretty good, but took longer than usual, likely because the antifreeze
solution contains additives that prevent ultrasonic cleaning action. The part of the rod held above the solution of ethylene glycol is still lightly rusted in this pic. the rest of the rod looks new.

The piston is super clean after 8 hours in soapy water described above. The rust on the knife is mostly gone, the cast iron also, black oxide all thats left. Pic of that. The rust
on the piston rings are gone the rings are now free and spin like they are clean.

Tempted to try E90 gasoline mixed with a quart of trans fluid but that kind
of potentially fatal procedure might not be best here? I believe my system
is safely capable but do not want to lead others into danger..Thoughts on this
or does anyone want me to try a specific recipe and part??
