Guys, I have really bad news. I pulled the head off to replace the head gasket. I put a straight edge on the head and I can see day light under some parts of the straight edge. Does this mean my head is warped? We leave for the Clunkerball on Sunday and I have to drive this baby 5,000 miles (Denver to New York then New York to LA). What on earth can I do? New head? Resurface? Find another car?

I did not look at it. This is the 4th festiva head I have done. All the alum/heads I have
worked on have been warped after use on iron blocks.

got ya Festyboy. I will stop the other tread. No daylight under any of edges of the head, only daylight in between cylinder holes. Not much daylight...probably a little more than a finger nail.

I sent you a PM milehighbear. Georgeb, you are right. We just bought the car 2 weeks ago and thought it would just be a simple water pump. Orginally the guys from the show Lizard Lick Towing were going to have us a car. That did not work out so we had to buy one here in Colorado. Nothing ever works like you plan but here I am and now I need to get her running good. I only paid $400 for my Festiva so I guess you get what you pay for.

Anyone else had their head resurfaced? How much did it cost? If it cant be reserfaced, where on earth do I find a new head?

They quoted me 48$ for a mill job alone, then charged me less when I picked it up..so I don't know exactly what it cost. Just Google machine shops in your area and call around for the cheapest place!
