and got a new project in the process - I bought first festy today - 89, 5sp, 156k miles, white/grey.... motor is rough (smokes) carbed) so it needs major work under the hood. clutch and trany felt good. will need a windshield.

looks like it may actually be nice on the inside after you scrub and shampoo it out good. new carpet will do wonders for it.

but get this (and its the main reason I paid 600 for it) the body is straight - NO DENTS ANYWHERE!!! and no rust anywhere either.

now the 64k ? - when I put a fi motor in it what else has to be changed? I would assume fuel pump but will that match up with the original tank?

I go pick it up sunday - I looked at it today and left a deposit.

the 94 aspire in the back yard is going to donate its entire suspention componants over the next few weeks so in the meantime I'm on the lo for a escort gt engine. will the escort engine mate up with the festy's 5 banger? or do I need to get trany out of escort as well?

I'll be countin on youse guys to walk me and my mechanic through its transformation. I plan on tricking it out to the 9's and my goal is to have a camaro and stang buster that will still have the reliability of the festy and still get 30ish mpgs when not lead footed. also I want it to handle like a madman on these curvy mountain roads around here. when I put new stuts in on the swap what is available for max handling? will going to 14/15" wheels help or will the 13's from the aspire be plenty with the right tires.

or would you put the good motor from the aspire donar car in it and use it "as is" for 45mpgs? I don't want to put more than $2-3k and still have a sweet ride.

I plan on doing all the suspention work myself and all the interior work as well. but I don't have the equipment or garage space to do the engine pull.

Fuel tank is different on FI. Has a different opening to accept the fuel pump. You can however use an aftermarket pump mounted externally.
Me, I would try to switch tanks.

as far as the engine pull u can rent or even rig up a hoist and a couple of days of good weather will do u right as far as not having a garage, the rest of the knowledge is right here

If that Aspire is a 2 door, the fuel tank will swap over if you decide to go F. I.

try to make the clemson meet in april! if you keep it carb kartracer46 is the man(jay) he can rebuild your carb & help with any questions you may have & if your going to upgrade to f.i. go ahead & swap in the b6. you can pick one up for a few hundred & get a 20% increase in power. post pics when available, good luck p.s. does it have a underseat tray on the passenger side? the13's are fine

shouldnt the stock festy tranny hold up fine with the b6? if he goes that route

I dunno, I've never done it. With a b6 it's not a whole lot more power so yea it might be alright for awhile.. I guess it just depends on who you are and what your trying to get out of your build, and how much you like pulling axels.

I run the e trans with my b6 swap. I have some fun with it and don't mind lighting the tires up every now and then. As long as you don't dump the clutch with the engine screaming you should be ok, but if you're out to bust 'stangs i'd go f-series. I doubt the e-series would hold up if you plan to put it down hard and often.

Is the parts aspire 2-door? 2 door aspire tanks bolt right in, don't they?

I have 2 DD aspires that I have the parts cars for so I wouldn't want to sell a part that I may need for one of those.
