      Engine oil - 8k to 12k unless I'm auto-rx cleaning
      Tranny - 30k
      Brake fluid?
Coolant - about once a year

Keep up on those escape fluid changes. Those transmissions get very sensitive about dirty/bad fluid and like to crap out.

Yes the escape will get the tranny fluid changed every 10k, i'll just drop the pan actually it has a plug and change out 4qts. I want it to last since eventually it will be mine.

The total capacity of the escape cd4e transmission is 10 quarts.

On the escape board I heard their recommendation is to change out the 4 quarts from the pan every oil change. It's only an extra $4 every 3000 miles. Then change the filter every 10k to 20k.

Use MERCON fluid. NOT Mercon V. Just MERCON! Also don't use any dual rated fluids (such as AMSOIL's Universal or the new Mobil1 ATF).

The CD4E is VERY sensitive. Thus, a little overkill goes a long ways.

The escapes have a built-in filter than can't be serviced without removing the tranny etc. I might just do it every change after the freebie oil change.. unless the dealer tries to stick 5w30 in it I may end up doing the oil change and tranny in the next couple months.

                I never change transmission oil.

I guess I probably did when I changed out the clutch on my first Festiva. That was at 180,000 miles. The car now has over 300,000 miles on it and the tranny is still fine.

Coolant, every once in a great while.

Engine oil, I used to change it every 5,000 miles when I was putting on lots of road miles(used to have a 60+ mile drive one way). Now that I just putt around town, I change it every 2,000 miles, which is only about twice per year.

Belts - when they start showing signs of needing replacement.

A couple other things you will need to add to your Festiva replacement schedule would be mufflers and CV joint boots. They tend to go through lots of these.

No wonder they have a high failure rate!

                    ?????

                    high failure rate?

not nationally. CD4E has been a very durable trans since '98.

where are you getting your info, Dan?

Compared to actual number of failures you hear compared to actual number on the road the cd4e are somewhat reliable. Most failures can be traced to using synthetic or merc IV. Some came with Merc IV from the factory by mistake, those also came with the wrong dipstick stating Merc IV. Anyways checking out three boards on it that seems to be the source of most failures. Also when we test drove escapes 80% of them hadn't had there transmission changed, it was funny pointing that out the salesmen and leaving the lot.

From escape/tribute owners that aren't happy with their transmission.
