  • How I rolled my my other project car.

Ok I hope this is the proper place to post this but if not moderator please fell free to move it.

I may be new to Festivas but I am not new to repairing cars. I own 2 ChevyIIs that I also work on along with all of our other vehicles. My 62 ChevyII needed to be rolled so I could work on the bottom and some of you may be able to adapt this approach to the Festivas. I can't take all the credit for this set up as I adapted it from a pic I saw of what someone did.

Here is a link to my complete thread on making this for my ChevyII.

Not sure what places there are on the Festys to mount such a set up but I built it for just over $100 so the price was right.

Never could figure out why it would be necessary to disassemble a vehicle that far.

So I can take 27 years + to get it back together LOL. I have a 64 4 door driver also that I have done a lot to but never took it clear apart like the 62. So you are right it isn't always necessary.

I like the caster on it. that's alot cheaper than buying a rotisserie.

Where did you attach it to the chassis at?
Im not driving a Festiva because I'm poor. I drive a Festiva because i want to!

The ChevyIIs are a unibody car so at the back I used the holes were the bumper mounting brackets mount to the car.

The entire front clip is a bolt on on the ChevyIIs. I have the front one mounted to the lower mounting point for the inner fender assemblys.

As I stated I am not that familiar with the Festivas yet so I am not sure what the best way to mount something like this is but as light as the Festivas are the bumper mounting points might work.

I really like how you did you Chevy II. I'll have to copy that next time I roll a Festiva. You can see here in this thread how I did it a little more primitively:

Post your Festiva or Aspire repair and maintenance issues. - USE THIS FORUM FOR ANY TECHNICAL RELATED POST (IE. How do I change my oil?, How to remove axle from tranny?, etc)

I used the bumper mount attachment points to attach my wood. Pretty simple, though crude, in my case. I didn't think about round shapes for actual rolling!

This thread of yours I had not seen yet. That is good info as it shows everyone just were they can attach rollers on theses little cars. I don't know who made the one I first saw but here it is.

Another member posted this on the Nova site and gave me the idea to build one for my car. I modified it and put a curved section on both sides so I can roll it either way.

That is all good work! Are your curved plywood ends made out of a sandwiched pair of plywood sheets? Or is single ply enough?

                        Thanks,

Mine are two layers of 3/4" plywood with 2x4 in between. It is overkill for the ChevyII as other have made one with 1 layer of 3/4". My ChevyII still has windshields, 1 door and trunk lid on it so I made sure it would hold the weight and then some.

                            Good detail picture--thanks!

I would say for a stripped Festiva shell, 2 X boards (I used 2 ten foot long 2 X 6s--or 2 X 8s--in my pics to lever my car over) plus 1/2" plywood should be sufficient with that type of construction.

Once you make a set of "roller boards" like this, they will be reusable and fit any Festiva. A good thing to have in place of a "rotisserie." And much cheaper! Wheels and other supports could also be added for more mobility as well.

                            Cool stuff.
