  • 12" Tires

FYI to all of you out there in tire land. I bought a set of Yokohama 165/70R12 tires last year from the Ford Dealer. They were $388 installed, but Ford had a $100 rebate for Yokohama, so my net was $288.

Anyway, the rebate is back. This year, the tires are up a little, but you can probably still get a set for about $320 or so.

Just thought I would pass that on. They are great tires with an A traction, A temperature rating. summitracing.com has them for about $65 each, but shipping is a little high.

    Rebate good through 5/31/2012

They're readily available for about $45 all the time in the Seattle area.

The place I buy them gives me a cardboard box from a single 21" or 22" SUV wheel and I easily fit two tires in one box for shipping (or checking as airline baggage to Los Anchorage).

At $45, the Yokohama would be a great deal even with shipping. Most of the online places I see are around $65 plus shipping. The Ford rebate makes them around $55. I think that includes shipping cost to the store.

I'll have to check with them. Their website doesn't show any of the 12" tires. It would be cool to find some $45 Yokohamas

Above, I stated that I paid $45 each for 12" tires.

I just found my invoice while cleaning out the glove compartment. Last August, in Seattle, I paid Discount Tire $45 each, but the description says:

155/80R-12 77T BSW KUMHO POWER START 758 BSW.
                    Warranty: Mileage - 50,000.

So it appears that the manufacturer is Kumho, which means about as much to me as Yokohama. Is one Asian midget tire brand really any better or worse than another? Are 165/70s really much different than 155/80s?

I bought a festiva that did a good bit of sitting. It developed flat spots on its very low mileage kumhos. I told this to a guy who sells tires. He said a lot of th kumho tires he sold came back with defects.

same exact prob but my tire guy said they would prob. fix themselves after I put a few miles on them. he said the hotter the temp the better the chance of them correcting themselves. I put 500 on them and haven't noticed any problems at any speed. I over inflated by 5 pounds and drove on them for about 200 miles first. it was in the high 80s for a couple days. may be all in my head but they seem fine now. I run them on the front and I don't notice any bumping or shimmy.

I put my four on the rear of two Festivas and ran them. I don't know if they worked themselves out or not. They were only noticeable on the front.

What about the NanKang or whatever those are? I can get them for $48 ea. They are 155r80s, but have a 440/A/B rating. Look okay and I can get them local.
