  • Dragged home an '88 LX!

Ahhh, it's been a long two weeks.

We looked at a car 100mi away, and as we test drove it.. the radiator blew. Cracked the filler neck clean off. I won't tell the whole story up to this point unless someone wants to hear it.

The seller put a used radiator in it, charging us $50 more including labor (we were going to buy a new one, but ah well, he wanted to get rid of it), and got it running OK.

We knew it had ATLEAST bad rings when we got there, and it was smoking pretty heavily, but we decided we liked it and bought it. My mom drove it home, and I drove behind in the '90. We were going alright... then we got on a road with lots of hills and twists and turns, and no way of getting off... and the temp. started redlining.. and by the time she found a place to turn off, the second radiator went, too.

Had it towed from there for the last 50mi, and it's FINALLY sitting in the driveway. Now that there's a second vehicle I'll have something I can actually work on.

I won't be able to post pictures until tomorrow as the ones I took were awful.

    Black
    5-speed
    Nice tan interior
    Steelies
    218K mi
    Rear wiper/defrost
    No underseat tray
Clear-coat is mostly gone, 3 penny-sized rust spots, and a few dents. No rust anywhere else.

Overall a nice car, rode nicely down the road. Coated my car behind in odd grime as I followed. Coolant in the oil, some odd use of a plastic oil can with a tube going into it in the middle of the engine..

CAN YOU SAY ENGINE SWAP? Looking into a B6 as it seems something I could learn with..

Found a 16-valve B6 kinda locally for $250.. 16 is from the MX-3, right? Is it better to get a Tracer/323 engine?

Just happy to be home and it's time for some sleep! :p

          Ohhh, completely forgot:

Sale came with most original documentation from when it was bought in Indianapolis. Huge '88 service manual. Do-it-yourself manual. Some other paperwork from a different car.. now I just need to find the '93 all the other info went with.

Nice. Our first family Festy was black. It was an L, but seeing this brings back memories.

We got the Festy after having a Dodge Aspen. Lil sis got in it and literally started crying and whining, "It's too little."

She never did like them either. Even now she hates them. But then she's still young and stupid and under worked and over paid.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Looks good! If you do an engine swap I'd check into an early B6 and use your carbed intake and exhaust, etc. Might be less work than going FI.

On the other hand, if you don't mind taking it apart more, swapping in an FI harness and putting in new FI spec fuel lines, then have at it!

Been searching for about two hours, looks like you're right. Now to find me a Tracer/early 323...

Excited to try something I never thought I'd even think of trying.
