  • Hello festiva people :) just want to introduce myself and festiva

Hello, I have been on this forum for a while but never posted anything, so i thort i would show you my festi, im welcome to any suggestions or anything, any way...... I want to put a B6 motor in it...... But my model is a carb, is it possible to run the B6 motor with the B3 carb? (Instead of wiring ect).

    Car's done 118 000 kms ( 73 000 Miles )
Pedder's stiff coil springs+gas comfort strut's (There stiff tho)
Im looking at getting a cutom made 22mm? sway bar (I think the standards 20mm) i was told it's 2mm thicker and it's soild. It's going to cost $300 but might be worth it, It handles CRAZY atm, like a go cart....lol

My MAIN question is...will the Front sway bar give me to much understeer? I have heard that alot about FWD car's loosing traction front end around corner's because of the front bar being to big, Just dont want that problem.

Any who...... Thanks for reading and your input is important

See if you can scavenge a front sway bar from an Aspire (at least that's what those 94-97 cars were called in N America). They're 1 1/16 inch thick vs 7/8" on Festys. Makes a heck of a difference in taking the lean out of our cars while going around corners and whatever is left of your $300 can then be spent on other things.
They are a direct fit, by the way, but you'll have to undo the transmission crossmember to slip it in and you'll have to shorten the lower rad hose a little bit (maybe 3/4 inch).

For the trouble of changing engines, I agree it's better to do the Aspire suspension swap and then do an Escort/Weber carb conversion. You will be amazed at the power in the 1.3 engine + the brake stopping power. Please add your location to your profile. Great pics.

If all the nuts and bolts aren't seized the whole process could be pretty quick. But as with anything the first time around is always much much slower (took me half a day to install the first one) than the second time around. Notice that you will not need to remove the sway bar body brackets from the front of the Aspire (but hang on to the cover plates and the rubber bushings) since they are not compatible with Festy frame bolt holes. Originally took me hours to get those things loose from the Aspire only to discover you can't use them anyway. The new sway bar will pinch-in nicely on to the old Festy mounts. Use whatever rubber bushings are in the best shape. Make sure you slip the sway bar into the LCAs before you attach or tighten anything else.
Some of the guys are putting the sway bar on upside down so as not to have to tangle with transmission cross members or rad hoses but I have no experience with this. The sway bar slope going into the LCAs will certainly be different but perhaps not enough to mess up those bushings.

I don't know how common these 2nd generation Festys (Aspire) are in Aussie but around here just finding one is already an ordeal.

In 'aspiring' to seek for an Aspire sway bar why not grab the entire lower part of one of those cars, front and back, while you're at it. Then you'll be well on your way to a firmer ride, better brakes (with easy to remove vented front rotors too) and a more universal 100mm bolt pattern for rims and tires (Festys are oddball 114mm).
This site is alive with advice and suggestions in that regard. 'Rectilinear' has even been coaching us recently on grafting even better early Kia Rio front suspension and brake stuff on (which is also happens to be 100mm).
