  • 92 Protege

Just found a wrecked 92 Protege with 31,000 miles. Guy wants $450 for it. SOHC, will it fit?
My engine chart just says B8, not clear on SOHC or DOHC.

Yup, good deal. Buy the whole car, part it out, use that B8!

B8s are 16V SOHC, with 103 hp. I want one for my next swap.

Since you seem to be tracking mileage with your other cars that engine is excellent for mileage despite its Displacement. I found the extra mmph you can skip gears on flat ground with the aspire transmission and not bog

I seem to recall some of the early B8's were only 8V.......not sure when or where the cut-off was.

              Thanks Guys,
Will pick it up tomorrow. I will have to do some pin out work on the ECM, correct?

IRC just the TPS wire, there's no VICS on a B8

Maybe your thinking the B6. 90+ california B6 was 16V while the other 49 states got the 8V. I believe the 92-93 mx-3 also got the 16V SOHC.

^^ correct. I don't think there were ever any 8 valve B8s, at least not here in the US. B8 is a great motor, doesn't have the screaming top end of a BP, but it definitely makes plenty of torque down low.
