WHAT?!?!?!?!! What happened? Just old age?

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Lots of guys wished to mate American V8s with exotic sportscars 50 years ago, and quite a few unimaginatively did, But Shelby on his own managed to pull it off.
He didn't (I don't think) have a hand in inventing 60's Sunbeam Tigers (Alpine with a Ford V8) but his dreams were realized ever after, over and above the AC and Mustang line of goods, by countless imitators.
I'd wish him 'rest in peace' but I doubt he'd stand for that. Right now he's likely trying to figure out a way to small block Chevy-power a Festy, still have it able to go around corners OK, and also look like it would inhale your neighbour's Rottweiler.

I read a quote saying He wanted to die with Ford, so probably not any SBC's... Maybe the Super Charged 5.8 out of the new GT500 though

He spent half his life making money off of building wild cars, he spent the other half draggin people into court and suing them over anything that looked, smelled or tasted like a cobra. I understand protecting your investments but most I have read is that he turned into a cranky old S. O. B.
                        money pit

No spitters were I work, you swallow it all. The Company feels if you already have it in your mouth why waste it.

Oh to be famous, and able to afford to chase after whatever you want! Lucky for him there wasn't a memorable WWI or WWII airplane or boat (Corvette!!) directly named Cobra, and Python had already been taken on by Colt.
