I don't really want to swap engines since I did the head gasket deal a couple years ago and installed rebuilt heads. It rattles when you first start it, but as soon as the oil pressure comes up it shuts up so I don't think the crank will be hurt. It's my kid's car and the body and interior are perfect. It's never been in even a minor accident so I hate to junk it.

pull the pan and go after the rod bearings. OR use some 15w-40 rotella

plus 5 cans of STP. Do they still make that stuff?

yes they do!!! and as far as STP goes, their oil treatment is recomended in out engines and engine of our era or earlier due to the lack of Zinc in the new oils.
