I just want to put a question out to the community for all those who did the Aspire swap. I put the Aspire space saving spare into the spare tire well, but the Festiva hardboard cover is about a half an inch too high now. What has anyone done to level it out to the floor pan? I was thinking of getting a filler for the 7" center and a 21" outer ring for the other side of the spare tire rim high spot.

Just a reminder that our "doughnut" spares are all around 20 years old or older now. Even if the spare hasn't been used, it will become increasingly "iffy" to do too much.
If you drive more than around town, I'd be thinking about a newer full size spare, unless you run 175/70-13s or 185/60-14s or another common tire size that could be readily replaced with used or new at any garage.
If you run an odd tire size, better have an extra unmounted tire of that size on a long trip. Use your doughnut to get to a shop to get your backup tire mounted and balanced if the flat one can't be plugged.

I don't personally think it makes too much of a difference, but it keeps the spare wearing evenly with the rest of the tires so you don't have a new tire on one wheel and a worn tire on the opposite side. Especially on a drive axle.
Me? I don't even carry a spare.
