  • 1.3 EFI and 5 speed

I just found a 1.3 EFI with a 5 speed. It came out of a 92 festiva with less than 75K. The motor runs and the transmission has no problems. I can pick both up for 250. I was looking for a 5 speed and don't really need the motor. I will probably keep it for a spare. How hard is the linkage for a 5 speed to come by?

Manual transmission linkage is the same for both 4 spd and 5 spd.

How can you tell the difference between a 5 speed and a 4 speed just by looking at them?

Try to shift it into fifth. Turn the shift linkage stub that sticks out of the trans all the way clockwise and pull back. If it goes into a gear and stays there, thats fifth. There's also some slight differences with the reverse and neutral switches, but I can't remember what those are off the top of my head, someone else may know and/or be able to post pics. But the easiest way I know of is to try to put in fifth, and if it goes into fifth then its a 5 speed.
            No festiva for me ATM...

Make sure you have at least one axle stub in the trany or the side/spider gears may fall out. Requiring the case to be split to put them back.

you can shove an old broom handle in there in a pinch as well.

I have a shifter and linkage if you need them, not sure if you are going auto to manual or not.

Whatever you do , DO NOT TURN THE TRANS INPUT SHAFT WITHOUT AN AXLE IN THE DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEARS, THE SIDE GEARS AND CUPS WILL FALL OUT OF PLACE AND THE TRANS WILL HAVE TO BE TAKEN APART. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT.
