    Hello Festiva Community!
    My name is Greg.
    I don't have a Festiva YET.
There is a 90 for sale close to me, I waiting to hear back from the owner.

So, for you guys with pretty fast to FAST Festivas: are you all straight line racers or do you do road course racing as well? how do they handle with more power?

For you bigger guys out there: I'm 6'6 but have gumption for smaller cars. How do you fit in your Festiva?? is there room to breath or is it hand your head out the window for more space?

Any of you guys ever consider a Swap from a Geo Metro? those guys are putting out impressive numbers...on stock blocks...with superchargers.

I've been looking at info for swaps for the Festiva, but some of it seems to be scattered rather than stickied Any good links on some of the more straight forward swaps. Or, a comparison of where the swaps shine the most i.e. Drag, auto-x, track, rally, rally-x

Anyways Hopefully ill be a new Festiva owner soon, and asking more annoying questions!!
    Fast....Women are fast
    Quick...Nestle is quick

    I Speak French....in German! lol.

welcome and i hope i answer some of your questions

hers ad's road course thread awesome stuff

Show your racing trophies, 1/4 mile time slips and discuss other sanctioned racing sessions (includes auto-x, drag racing, 1/8 mile slips, etc)

heres two stickies for swaps. 1 for the bp swap and 1 for a b8 swap

here is the fastest festiva thread and some guys are putting down some impressive numbers

Show your racing trophies, 1/4 mile time slips and discuss other sanctioned racing sessions (includes auto-x, drag racing, 1/8 mile slips, etc)

as for cabin room it is great and very roomy everyone that rides with me comments on that because its so small outside. there is a guy on here named "sasquach" (possibly spelled it wrong) and he is in the 6'+ zone and has no problem fitting into them.

if you start swapping and want good handeling you will want bigger wheels/better tires, break upgrade is very important and some suspension work to be safe.

this is a great forum with great people who are very helpfull, pretty much better than any other forum i have been a part of. so as long as your not a jerk you will find a good home here

Welcome to the forum, you'll love it hear

If you want to upgrade brakes, look at the ford aspire, the trailing arm and front spidles swap right over to a festiva and are a hell of an upgrade

there's plenty of options to choose from for engine swaps, it just depends on the power output you want, there's 1.6's, 1.8's each with SOHC or DOHC and each have there turbo'd variants, the 1.6 turbo (B6T) was found in the Capri XR2 or 323 GT/GTX and had around 140-150hp the 1.8 turbo (BPT) had about 180hp and was only available overseas, although the N/A BP's are tough as hell and can take a good amount of boost.... eurotiva has a junkyard BP with a rear mount turbo and ran mid 12's

I did some experimenting a couple years ago and ended up paving the way on how to install a KLZE (2.5L V6) then turbo'd it

      1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
      1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

        welcome Milton!

Bobbyspider gave you some good links to start with, and you've come to the right place if your interested in Festivas.
These cars put down amazing amounts of hp on a road coarse for such a lightweight fwd vehicle. I'm currently putting 161hp to the track with an open diff and the car feels like it could use 100 more hp! Check out some of my videos on YouTube for footage of my festiva catching and passing some pretty fast cars on the track, including a Ferrari F430!
There isn't much use for a geo/Suzuki three cylinder under the hood of a festiva. These cars came with the tried and true Mazda B series engine! And, Lucky for us, every other Mazda B series that was sold in the u.s. is an upgrade. Just pick your poison! You can make more power than you'll be able to use with several of these engines. Bp engines are known to make over 300hp reliably (with a good turbosystem), with very little investment. There are several members here who have 280ish hp engines on stock salvage yard bottom ends!
Glad to have another member, keep us posted on your car!

Welcome, Milton! Where are you located? You can add your info on the home page by going to the Quick Links section and following the drop down menu. I usually advise new members to add their zip code, as it helps with getting shipping quotes from members that have items you want to buy.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I already feel like I will be here for a long time.
I guess since I have never looked into Mazdas' before, the nomenclature was a bit intimidating. So let me see if i got it right.

b3 is what came stock in the Festiva right? Any hope for adding pep to it while I start clearing the garage for the bp?
bp Is the mazda engine and also came in the escorts right? or its the engine that the escort crowd pine over.
I saw the Aspire swap, that would be one of the first things I did.

P,S: if anyone has a link or info on turboing the stock engine, let me know. I have a friend that supercharges Airplanes so I'm pretty sure we can get a kit going!

yup the b3 is stock and there are some guys on here that have boosted theirs. i know that ketchup (havnt seen him here in awhile), resuwrected (he doesnt get on much anymore, and then there is the man the myth the legend... eurotiva aka greg. he has boosted everything he has he has done a remote rear turbo setup on a b3 a b8 and now a bp and is running 12's.

you can collect parts to boost the b3 or just wait and do the bp swap for about the same price, id recomend waiting and going bp its a blast to drive.

yes the bp came in the later escort gt's and some proteges. some custom mounts, a mid shaft from a 323gt or xr2, ecu wit 2 wires run to it, and your about there. wait and do the swap if you have decient mechanical ability and a welder you could pull it off in a weekend. of course you could be like me and have learned everything i know about cars in the last 2 1/2 years by working on tivas and take a year and a half to do the swap lol

                giddyup, and word up

Yeah, the little b3 is the stock engine. It responds well to modification, but most people swap it's bigger twin brother (b6 single cam) since it's a direct replacement. Here is a link to a well done b6 turbo system (would look the same on a b3)
                  http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=18077

The 16v b6 swaps nicely and comes in both an n/a (b6d) and turbocharged version (b6t). There is a lot of aftermarket support for these engines due to the fact that they started life as Mazdas homoligated WRC aengine and finished their production life as the 1.6 Miata powerplant. This is also the case for the bp engine, It started life as a turbo FWD and AWD competition based engine that was campaigned in the 323gtr and protege/familia gtr touring and rally cars and eventually ended up in the Miata. It can also be found in certain year Kia Saphias and escort gt's as well as the Protege LX. It's a great choice for someone with decent fabrication and mechanical capabilities.
There are still other engines that can be successfully swapped in the festiva. The K8v6, and klv6 (as seen above),b8 single cam, the 1.5l z5 and it's bigger brother the ZL(1.6l) and there is even an sr20det awd festiva (minigun) but he keeps it pretty much a secret legend.
Then there is the mid engine alternative, most commonly done with a Taurus SHO v6, but there are a few other ways it's been done.
You've definitely entered into a group of enthusiast that enjoy their cars to the full extent. We like to help each other customize or restore these cars in different ways. There's a festiva for just about any occasion on here. From a wood hauling trailer pulling offroad festiva to one with tank tracks to 12second street cars to perfectly restored museum pieces. We enjoy them all.

I missed the one with tank tracks.
Thanks for all the links and stuff I'll go read up now. I'll probably pep up the b3 for a did while I build the b6.

I read a lot that people were concerned with trans strength but I don't think it mentioned what trans.
                    What's that about?

The stock festiva e series transmission and clutch don't hold up well to abuse. The F series out of a 323, kia Rio, protege or Capri n/a are an upgrade, but still not adequate for big hp and they require custom mounts. The G series transmissions take quite a bit of abuse, but also require custom mounts and different axles. Some f and g series trannies have hydraulic clutch which presents another challenge with mounting. The most straightforward g series box comes out of the mercury capri xr2 or Mazda 323 gt ( rare in the u.s.)

Windy, you actually missed a couple of commas in that post! Lol! ( Now I'm the jerk:p)

Also, one more thing, the festiva automatic transmission is quite durable and has been known to handle the power of a bp without any problems. Some say it's as strong as a g series.

I've found my e-series has held up well to the BP as well. I'm not really abusing it but I'm not too nice. However, my clutch has been slipping for several months now when I really get on it I've put over 30,000 on the clutch/trans.

Welcome to the forum! There is a lot of reading material here. Just about any question you can ask has been asked before so the search function is your friend! These cars are great and very durable. The mazda b series engines are great engines. Plus the simple yet very well designed Festivas are easy to work on and quite durable themselves if treated properly (and often improperly).

stock 5 speed trans, stock clutch starts to loose integrety around 100hp or so. if you turbo the b3 then swap a b6 single cam in later you can just swap your kit directly over to the b6

gaugehalfinch has a good b6 turbo setup. you should ask him about it
