  • Junkyard Find! Seriously pains me!

So... I had a few extra minutes after having lunch with my wife, and decided to head out to my LEAST favorite pull apart place to see if they had an RX-7 to pull a shift knob from...

I got there, and sure enough they had an RX-7, sadly it was an AUTOMATIC! YUCK!

Just for kicks on my way out the door, I asked if there was any Festivas in the yard (This place NEVER has Festivas). She said they did! Clear out on row 26. (2nd to last row).
I wasn't expecting to find much, but my heart dropped when I saw it sitting there. The ONLY things missing on this car is the passenger side headlight, grill, and the door panels. I think it's a case of mistaken identity. The car is marked and they have it down as a '91, though the hatch with wiper says it's an LX. The front bumper is a white one off a GL, and the rear bumper was a gray one that had been painted white. The interior looked to be LX/GL (Had the pin stripes). The car has air conditioning, rims, the body panels were all straight...

Well, turns out that it now no longer has a title, and is labled as dismantled, never to be driven again. So sad! I pulled the raised Festiva emblem off of it (They gave it to me for free). Lots of great stuff on it...

Did you check for the elusive under seat tray found only on the LX? They are mounted under the passenger seat.

They want $27 each for them without tires. I will grab them, if someone confirms they want them. I'm running 13's now on mine, and just ordered trim rings for them this morning...

This business of a non-crashed vehicle losing it's title as soon as it arrives at the JY is a real shame.

But I do remember from 35-40 years ago of a colourful local British car salvage yard that valued the sale-ability of titles much more than the physical wrecked car itself. Back then models didn't change much over 5 years (how about 10 years for some) and serial numbers were pop-riveted on, so an "MGB" or a "Triumph" could conceivably live a long time even though it changed from auto to manual, colours, options etc every now and again. Might have saved discretionary folks the trouble of having to fix a crashed one, paying sales tax on a new puchase, added insurance and going through mechanical inspections and all that other ornery stuff.
Not too difficult to figure out just how the gov't ultimately dealt with those widespread but hard to prove allegations.

What AC stuff should I be grabbing? I have no desire to put A/C in mine, while it's still a B3...

Doesn't matter if you're staying B3 or not, get it all and put it in now, then when you swap motors (assuming you are staying with another B series mazda motor) it will all bolt right up to your new block. No reason to put it off just because you are planning a future swap

You lucky guy! I need two rubber seatbelt bolt plugs shipped to Lewiston, NY. Name your price. Cut the carpet right behind the e-brake console and pop them out.
                              PM me please.
