I'll tell ya, that looks plenty sturdy! And you can even do wheel alignments.

The Village of Manotick sponsored a soapbox derby 2 weeks ago. Contestants had to be under the age of 12 and the course was a blocked off gently sloped street about 1/4 km long. There were 36 homemade carts and about 3 times as many drivers. You sure can tell whose parents are good designers and/or builders. Steering, brakes and friction at the wheels were the most obvious variations of sound building. The local Member of Parliament initiated the race and ran a borrowed kart. But he and the race marshals had overlooked his not being able to reach the foot brake so when he got to the end he wound up flattening a row of rubber beacons and drove through the wall of a garden shed. The volunteer fire department had a whooping great time with all that and the kids had a gas. Light bicycle wheels with bearings, obviously, cleaned house over lawnmower wheeled carts and simple handbrake designs that rubbed on the rear wheels (like on a wheelchair) were the ones that stopped best.

Updates! It's strong enough to support my weight easy. everything is on either a needle, oil impregnated thrust or ball bearing. just have the steering to finish sorting out and then its ready for paint and woodwork
