Doesn't look like a turbo model. They usually have a rear wing, and a badge on the trunk that reads XR-2. I've personally never seen a turbo automatic either. ( Doesn't mean they didn't exist, just never seen one).

IIRC, Rocketman once mentioned that all XR2s/turboes are manual tranny.

I came across one of these in Ottawa at a U-pull 6 months ago. Badges were missing. Same as you, I had never seen one before. Engine in it was a BP but with no turbo.
Now what would possess someone to order/invest in one of these cars and then specify 'auto tranny' escapes me. But then again if someone like Bill Gates wanted to surprise 'the little woman' with a deluxe grocery-getter Bugatti Veyron it might feature oversized vanity mirrors, pink interior and a 2-speed GM Powerglide, right from the factory.

That's correct... no turbos on the automatics. The turbo was always mates to the manual G-series transmission. The capri in question is a nonturbo.

Sure it wasn't a B6D? They never came equipped with a BP, and I can count on one hand the number of BP swaps I've seen including my own

I thought it said 1.8 litre but I could easily have been mistaken. The car was in rough shape and numerous engine parts were missing so I didn't dwell on it too long.
