  • Who needs a Uhaul?

Yesterday I moved out of the student housing apartments and into my own with my girlfriend and my best friend. Needless to say, she and I had a lot of stuff to take to the new apartment some blocks down. So we loaded up her car and mine and did so.

What's in her car (98 mercury mystique): t
Two large boxes, one medium box, three bags of clothes and my seabag in the trunk. FULL.

In my car: three large boxes. Two medium boxes, two large bags of pots, medium tv, Xbox 360 and acc.

In my car the second run: two large boxes, two medium boxes, one small ice chest, two small boxes, one 100W Marshall amp, one 65W Crate amp (broken), one large flat screen tv, one les Paul (in the case), one acoustic beater (no case), vacuum cleaner, electric keyboard, mandolin in case, laptop, miscellaneous pots and pans.
I was blind to my right side and rear view, I could barely shift and speed bumps were uneasy at any speed, but we made it!

    Talk about an efficient move

If you're referring to the amps, they are both single units. I got the Marshall to replace the Crate that crapped out on me at a steal. Practically brand new for I believe $250. Apparently the father of the owner found out really quick how much racket that little rig could make and decided it was too much. I don't remember the name of the series but it's solid state that is designed to sound like tube. I want to get that Crate fixed and used for something more than a beer and ashtray table, but I can't find anybody who works on solid states anymore.

The Marshall wil eat the Crate for breakfast...and still be hungry :p

Put 'em side by side and listen.

If the Marshall is an open back, close it. All the bass frequincies will leak out the back.

I have a Marshall VS 65 solidstate. I pulled the head out of the combo cab, and wired in a jack on the back of it, so I could plug it into a REAL cab.

What a difference a closed back cab makes!!!! Whew! Now its the little amp that could! LOL

Big sound. Almost as good as my 100W half stack.

Oh yeah, it'll scream when pushed lol. The Marshall is an MG series, and it came with an enclosed back. The Crate is an open back. It's a Retrofex series and is probably the best Crate I've heard. Unfortunately, it wasn't that reliable. It only lasted three years, one in which it sat unused when I was away with the navy. Suddenly the overdrive channel blew and I couldn't play anything but clean. For a while I had it hooked up to a digitech effects machine until one night where it would not play any sound at all!
The new Marshall blows the other one away. My former roommate (punk rocker) had a Epi SG and Roland Cube setup. God, I loved that little amp. Packed a hell of a punch with just enough shrieks for everyone
