  • CB Must for Caravanners!

I picked one of these up a few months ago, and I thought I'd share it. The capabilities are better than the Cobra 19. It's the Midland 1001LWX.

The 1001LWX is the first CB radio with weather scan technology. It has a large back-lit LCD for easy viewing. It features a 40-channel digital tuner that locks accurately onto your selected channel. Weather scan technology automatically scans and locks on the strongest signal from the National Weather Service to give you up to date information while traveling. It installs easily in most cars, trucks, and RVs. A locking microphone connector easily connects and secures a microphone to the CB radio. PA functions toggle between public address and normal CB operation.

    Key Features:

    - 40-channel digital tuner
    - Weather scan technology
    - PA function
    - Full-sized microphone
    - Large back-lit LCD
    - External speaker jacks
The gain control on this unit allows you to peak and tune this CB without worrying about continuously over-driving the finals. A comparable CB will talk ~5 miles and hear ~23 miles after a 14-watt peak, and your SWR is tuned appropriately. The weather function and PA function sold me. This unit talks well, and has over-the-air noise cancelling technology.
    _________________________________________

Paired to that CB, the K40 brand K30 magnetic-mount antenna allows you to remove the entire assembly, as well as tune the SWR by trimming the antenna length to achieve the perfect 0 resistance.

It's up to you whether or not you want to use an external speaker or PA, of course, but concerning external speakers, I like the Uniden ESP20, although if you're not using your stock 4" speaker location, a set of Boss BRS40 speakers will do well to reproduce the sound. You just have to buy a headphone jack or cheap pair of headphones to wire in the sound.

This all costs less than a standard-sized CB if you've already had it peaked & tuned ($30), which for a larger CB costs around $50.

I miss the CB that I had in my aspire... Mostly for the PA option, and the hornspeaker I had connected to it! NOTHING is better than blaring the price is right music in a Walmart parking lot.

Hmmm... I think I still have a DB in my garage, and the speakers are only like $17 at Radio Shack...
