  • Hyundai Excel?

I've passed this car like 20 times on my way to and from Jefferson City and I always thought it was a Mazda 323 and yesterday I finally had enough time to Sup and check it out. Turns out it is a Hyundai Excel. Are any if the parts interchangeable? I know I've seen the wheels on the list of 4 bolts. I'm interested in getting the seats and having them recovered and it also had intermittent wipers. Unfortunately the owner wants 200 for the car. She said it was going to be scrapped and I told her I just wanted the seats but she said that would cut down on weight. Trying to see how much she would wasn't for just the seats and wiper switch if they fit.

Does it run? I'd rock an Excel for $200. My aunt bought one first year 1986 for like $4,500 brand new! Too bad for her, it was 2 years before her brother bought a Festiva LX Brand new, first year!

They'd likely give her more without the plastic, carpet, and all non metal stuff in the car like glass, etc.

I just assumed that it didn't run. I haven't seen it move in 5 months.

Hyundai's first car the Pony precedes the next generation FWD Excel. Pony was RWD along same vein as Chevette and is similar vintage.
Lots of vinyl on those seats. I wouldn't be in a rush to grab anything unless slipping her a $20 would cover filling your trunk with more junk. This is a Hyundai from the days before their buying a stake in Kia.
What I would be curious to know is are the headrests compatible with LX headrests. It is a screwball spacing for the posts on Festys and I have so far not found anything that matches it.

Have never heard anything good about Excels. Worth $200 to find something good.

I will do my best to see if I could throw her some cash and snag some stuff of it before she junks it...if it drives I'd maybe pick up the while car and drive it home...doubtful though.

The Pony was never available in the US. I remember seeing Hyundai's from the 70's (BIG RWD sedans) when I lived in Central America.

These Excels are Mitsubishi-compatible, not Mazda. They share a lot of components with the 1989-1992 CSM (Colt/Summit/Mirage) and can be 4G63T swapped as well. That's a 2.0L Mitsubishi Lancer Evo / Eclipse motor if you don't know already. They can be fun swap cars!

So the seats probably wouldn't swap in without some modifications? It would be worth a shot if I could snag them for cheap. Gonna call the lady today.

I'd love to own that. I have a 4G64 sitting around that needs a home too.

The scrap yards that do the actual crushing/ shredding of cars don't care about the seats/ glass etc. Only the tires and fuel tanks, and sometimes the fluids. That being said, with scrap prices being what they are, those seats wouldn't bring enough weight to matter. Doubtfull they would even make a $20 difference. I've scrapped hundreds of cars, and we usually busted the glass, but made sure it fell into the car.

I wonder if the lady would let me take the seat out and just see if it would fit. I never called her today. I'll try her tomorrow before I pass by it again.

I've seen this car around and I always thought it was a 323 as well, nice find. Hope everything works out and you can find some transferable items.
