  • Is this a STOCK piston???

I finally got the piston from advanced auto that was discussed in my last thread and I just wanted to make sure this is the same piston that comes stock. Here is a picture of the piston I bought.

If anyone has had the cylinder head off of the stock motor can you verify that this is the correct piston? Does the stock piston have the 3 "eye brows" on the surface?

From what I can remember, that's what a stock B3 piston looks like.

Thanks, for some reason I was thinking it would be a flat top piston but I was told this was a stock replacement so I wanted to make sure. If anyone else can confirm or reject this being a stock replacement please let me know.

Did they ever make a 3valve per cylinder B series? I'm curious why the three reliefs.

I'm not 100% sure if this is why but I was thinking that the left 2 chambers on the cylinder head might be mirror images of the 2 chambers on the right. If that is correct then ford designed the pistons like this to keep from having to make different pistons for each side. This means there is one part number and that piston will work in any/all chambers. Saves them money on developing and making 2 different pistons and makes it easier for anyone who has to replace them.

If i'm incorrect then i'm sure someone will correct me.

The single crescent is for the intake valve which sets center of the bore in the head. The double crescents are for the exhaust valves, which is off set in the bore. As far as the mirror image it sounds good to me I did not pay that close attention while rebuilding.

I'm not done yet. This is my masters thesis research so I really won't get a grade for the work when i'm done. My professor still has the car and drives it from time to time but we will be taking the engine management system out of the car in the next week or so to put on the engine i'm using which is the stock engine from the car. Right now i'm trying to find a stock festiva cylinder head and so far haven't had any luck. I tried 2 junk yards yesterday that I have seen a festiva at on previous trips and neither had one there.

All I found was a thread where he said he had a head for $125 which is way more than I can afford. All I need is a used cylinder head that I can measure the combustion area of one chamber. I'm trying to find one in a junk yard that I can pull off and pick up pretty cheap.

Thanks for the heads up though.

If anyone has an old head that they would want to get rid of cheap let me know.
