Early vs. late alternators ~ Interchangable?

Has anyone here ever used an alternator from a 88-89 carbed festy in a later 90 - 93 EFI festy? I know the plugs are different. Could the plug on the harness be cut off and swapped to the later style to make it work?

Good question.

I've been saving alternators from all of my disassembly jobs -- mostly in Los Anchorage. I'd like to figure out what to bring back to SEA to cover myself in case of alternator failures. I have carbed and EFId cars in both locations.

Could simple adaptor cables (with no active electrical components) be made so either style alternator could be used in any Festy?

Switch the plugs, good to go!

Just connect wires according to size, not color.

At least this ^ has worked for me more than once.

I am currently running an alt off an old dodge colt, so there should be alot of option for you
