Anyone ever seen one of these?

I was at the PnP last weekend and there was a pretty nice example of one that was being parted out piece by piece by a little lady that was probably in her 40s. She talked with the yard about purchasing the whole car, but they wouldn't let her so she was taking everything she could...one bolt/screw at a time. Hoping she can purchase the body when she's done. Pretty daunting task if I do say so myself. She had 4 carts full of parts. Windows, Doors, drivetrain, interior. She was working on the engine when I started talking to her. The unique body caught my attention when I was stealing a Protege console from the car next to it. Later I even helped her remove the last of the transmission bolts in the rear. Was the strangest setup I had ever seen. Front mounted engine with a rear mounted tranny and disc brakes directly to either side of the tranny...instead of up closer to the wheels.

I can't find any photos of the transmission and disc brakes, but I had never seen anything like it. Looked like a really fun little car. Hope she was able to snag the body after all that work pulling parts!

I saw one once in a WalMart parking lot. Beautiful car. Wonder how it ever showed up there, though..

Some people I just don't understand. How could you look at THAT and scrap it? "Looks worth less than a Taurus uh-huh, better call up PnP." I dun get it.

I don't get it either. I was telling her that too. I was like, "I can't believe this ended up here!" It was even pretty rust free...body and underside. I only noticed a bit of rust on the front passenger wheel well and when I brought it up to her she said you couldn't even see that rust until after she pulled the side skirt off. The interior also looked to be in really nice shape. Leather too. And it had a sunroof! Yeah, I don't know how you could take that to a scrap yard. Even if it didn't run the interior alone was probably worth over 1000 bucks. The carpet was all she had left in the interior when I came over and it even looked fresh and Black!

Update: I just checked out eBay to see if there were any for sale on there to see how much they are worth. I found a bunch of parts listed from someone in MO...guessing it might be her...looks like she couldn't snag the body! Gonna message the seller.

Here is the auction for the transaxel and disc brakes so you can see how odd it was.

She got back to me. Total bummer!

"No, they would not let me take the body, which is a real shame. I paid $1500 for all the parts I took home. Manager ended up being a bit of a jerk."

Horrible. Nice to see the parts were saved, though. Sad she doesn't just hold on to them and buy a beater Alfa or something.

Worst thing is - that car will now be crushed ASAP. Goodbye rare Alfa.

I know...isn't it sad. I can't believe the original owner sent it to the yard!
