  • 5-point harness street legal?

Man o man, am I excited to drive my new festiva. I really want to leave it SCCA ready, with hopes to race it in the future, but I heard rumors that racing harnesses are not street legal. Something about 'submarining' in an accident, or the fact it's harder for paramedics to do their job. I tried searching the Michigan laws, to no avail.

Does anyone know offhand if racing harnesses are indeed street legal?

I have had a set of Simpsons in my S-10 truck for almost 15 years ,never had a problem .
Better check the law book ,They will say it is not legal for highway use ,if it had been modified from the factory ,even though we all know that they are prolly safer than stock.

Call up your local state patrol station and ask them. In many states they are not legal just because they aren't stock. I called the WA state patrol and found out that converting my auto belts to manual was illigal because they aren't stock.

Ofcourse, most cops will probably just let it slide if you aren't being a dumbass on the roads.

i got pulled over a couple weeks ago in the festiva with my 4 points, and the roll cage. He didn't say any thing about them. I am pretty sure they are not illegal.

Every car I have owned has had a turbo in it, until I bought this latest festiva.. I plan to fix that though.

          Some states it is illegal.

Type in Google the name of your state and the letters " gov " ; should take you to the official site which will have links to the motor vehicle statues.

I'm alive today because of a properly installed roll cage and racing harness in a street car; while driving my Mustang in 1988 I was T-boned in driver's door by a Buick Regal running a red light at 40+ mph.
