  • How to not break trannies

I found this interesting article that sounds pretty promising. If I ever have enough time or money I may try everything in the article but maybe just the shockproof oil for now.

That write up comes across to me like an advertisement for the "shock-proof" oil, a weak tranny is a weak tranny, period

      1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
      1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

just getting all the tricks on a diff would help racing a lot.
        stopping one wheel burn outs...
I cant shift with oil that thick.

Not a good sales pitch for Nissans!

They said it themselves. "No, although this transmission is basically a bunch of turds in a potmetal case it can be helped".

Did you read the whole thing? The only remedy was not the oil. Deburring, shotpeening, cryo, wpc treatment, cutting and reinforcing the case, poly mounts.

Yes I did read it, cryo freezing gears to me is like throwing in a phantom grip and saying you have an LSD, it helps a bit but your still dealing with weak components

I have tested several oils in my g15 mr. The best lubricant I have found is Valvoline synthetic motorcycle oil (VR4 IIRC) in a 20-50 weight. Motorcycle oil has friction additives that work great with synchros. They have these because most motorcycles have a clutch that is bathed in oil. This oil is available at most auto parts stores and it's a little cheaper than redline.
One other thing to note is that Redline also makes a lightweight shockproof gear oil. The heavy stuff is green and the light stuff is red. I used to swear by redline shockproof gear oil, but now I have to pay retail for it. Haha!
Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

How about for a stock festy transmission? I am looking for longevity on Baby Car, not speed.
