BP motor pricing, how much did you guys pay?

Hey guys,

I'm still looking around for BP motors and was wondering, I found a working escort gt for $800, that's cheap for the car and all but how much did you guys pay? Should I jump on this deal or are there better offers out there? Just wondering your guys opinions before I drop the mulah on it.

Id sell my bp f series festy for 700 so 800 isnt bad. Plus you would have everything you need and can hear the car run. Guessin a junk yard motor would be 250$?? Plus you dont know what it needs. Id snag it then scrap the body or part/sell it. 800 seems like a good deal to me.

I always try to factor in my labour when I look at stuff. I have a local woman thinking her intact (but structurally compromised) and smooth-running VW 1.6 turbo diesel Jetta is worth a million bucks and yet the U pull around the corner has the same engines (but history unknown) for $100 but you have to remove them yourself and on site. I think 'supply and demand', when it comes to pricing, is what drives everything in the used car, and used car parts, business. Just think of what it costs to rebuild or build a BP in labour and expenses and then start looking at how clean the motor you are looking at is. $800 could be a real bargain, or, it could be an expensive boat anchor.

I gave 350 for.my jy motor, they had it on a shelf, >100,000mi. Then spent a lot more than that to rebuild it.

Got mine off CL. It was still in the car when I looked at it. Heard it run, and then the seller pulled it out for me. $200 and it had 80,000mi on it. That was a great deal imo.

Talk the owner of $800 donor down, part out what you don't need on feoa.net. Recycle the catalytic converter and shell and you can break even. Free swap FTW.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to jump on this car, I only have about 3 months to get this thing swapped and tuned, and I'm still considering putting the aspire brakes as well as front coilovers in. I really couldn't be bothered with trying to rebuild it before febuary, making sure I have all the parts and that they are in running condition is a must.

Get out a battery, some booster cables and a compression tester so that you can at least get some idea of what the motor is like. Do a wet and a dry compression test. If the results differ considerably, one, you can negotiate a lower price or two, you can chicken out of the deal. Engine parts under the valve cover also are valuable in indicating how often the oil was changed. If everything is black you'd likely want to bail out!

You will not regret putting superior (Aspire all around and/or Rio fronts) brakes on a 120 hp car!
