  • Not a happy puppy right now

Things were going really well as I got things ready to drop the transmission. Axle nuts came off relatively easily and the the axles popped out of the transmission as they should. Went to undo the bolts at the front of the crossmember and the captive nuts broke free of the rad support :gritteeth:

I'll just pull the whole kit and kaboodle from the top so I can do a proper repairs to the rad support. I wasn't going to do anything on the engine other than change the rear seal. I guess I'll go ahead and replace the oil pump, oil pan gasket etc while I have it out of the car.

Minor venting now complete... carry on!

I avoid touching those bolts for that very reason, LOL. If I was closer, I would try to convince you to leave your front "pepper shaker" wheels outside (like I did) so they could get stolen (like mine did) by someone who needs a couple ( like I do now). Bwahahahahaha!

Sold all my "pepper shaker" wheels quite some time ago; after I did the Aspire brake swap.

Before trying to loosen captive bolts and nuts (or is that fruit and nuts?), find a way to spray PBB in there and let it soak a few days ahead of time.

Easy for me to say, eh?

                    Have fun Ian!

Agreed. But no such thing as a captive squirrel... take no prisoners, kill them all!

captive nuts are a great theory, however, they are either installed with the captive nut on top, so that water accumulates around the nut, or with the nut on the bottom but a bushing or indentation on thet op, so that water accumulates all the same. Either way they tend to rust out around the nut, and of course there is no way to cut the offending nut off short of stuff a grinder in there and taking it down to the panel its attached to. And if you manage to break the bolt off, god bless you.
