Yes they have. Ford does specify ATF in a lot of manual transmissions. What's more interesting; my 04 Mustang has a Tremec TR3650 trans. The factory Ford fill was Mobil 1 synthetic ATF, but Tremec claims that synthetics will attack the glue used in the carbon fiber synchros...and in the manual, Ford says to use Dex II/Mercon. Ford also lowered the fill level in the trans to address cold shift complaints. I've talked to 3 different Engineers at Tremec and got 3 different answers in terms of what fluid to use and how much. This is how it will look from above...see the 10mm bolt right there? remove it first.

Then give it a twist to the right slightly, use pliers to start it moving if need be.

Then pull up and out remembering there's a plastic gear that needs to clear the opening.

Once that 10mm bolt is removed, the only thing holding it in is that rubber O ring and years of grime.Last edited by iceracerdude; 11-28-2012, 08:06 PM.

Don't unscrew the black plastic piece. At the bottom of that, atop the transmission there is an ear that sticks out toward the passengers side. 10mm bolt holds the aluminum gear assy that the speedo cable screws onto.

How the hell are you guys using ratchets to get this thing off? I can't even get a 3/4 wrench around it. It's definitely not 10-12mm
Driverone - The dbag who rebuilt the transmission didn't even put 1/4 quart of tranny fluid in and ruined something in the tranny, that's why I can't do it that way.Last edited by Flw Sock; 11-28-2012, 05:04 PM.

Sure, the Japanese raised the bar on a lot of things. You can't just add a turbo and remove the rev-limiter on a lot of American designed cars...things like the crankshaft might come apart at 6,500 rpms!
Take a Mazda BP 1.8, or a Nissan SR20DE motor and add ten pounds of boost and they sing "We are the champions" like as if they was Freddy Merc himself! Yeah, you could say things have improved a bit.

Is this what I'm looking for? It's the only thick black cable I can find that leads to the transmission, and it has a twisty screw thing like the pictures of a speedo cable I see on google.
I'm asking because it's on top of the transmission, which iceracerdude said is the clutch cable. However, I looked on google and it looks different than a clutch cable, and more like a speedo cable. I just want to be sure.Last edited by Flw Sock; 11-28-2012, 04:38 PM.

No zoom zoom; Before joining this forum, I too tried refilling a tranny, after putting in a new clutch, just as you describe. Didn't take me real long to wonder what was going on, either. When I did pull the gear assy out it was quite apparent why the speedo was 'jumpy'; the nylon gear was split.
